Was Zendaya banned for wearing a crop top to a rooftop restaurant in Rome on Saturday? Not according to his team, who on Monday dismissed the claim as “completely false” and “a bald-headed lie”. Even the actor himself seemed to take action to respond via a meme that didn’t directly refer to the report.
The origin of the story daily mailscornfully reported that the “flashing star” arrived at Italian restaurant Terrazza Borromini “in a black tube top and cargo pants”, but was turned away due to “his and his party’s dress sense”. Tabloid noted that Zendaya appeared “unaffected during an interaction with restaurant staff.”
Scott Newman, spokesman for the actor, told The Daily Beast: “This is totally wrong – the band came to this restaurant and realized they had eaten there before. [sic] the last time he was in Rome.” He added that the people left and went elsewhere “because they wanted to try something new.”
This Mail reported that the group went to a nearby pizzeria instead.
Zendaya’s friend and personal assistant, Darnell Appling, addressed the issue in a lengthy statement on her Instagram Story. Shared the screenshot Mail‘ and captioned, “Well, that’s a bald-headed lie. We are not denied anywhere. When we saw the stairs, we entered the building that we realized we had eaten there before… The same stairs that Zendaya slipped and shared last year.
Appling was referring to an incident in Rome last February where Zendaya nearly hit the pavement after climbing a flight of stairs before being caught by the security team. Page Six reported that he had gone to lunch at the Eitch Borromini, the luxury hotel where Terrazza Borromini was at the time.
Appling said on his Instagram Story that the group wanted to try a new restaurant. “We never actually went upstairs and interacted with anyone,” he continued. “We talked amongst ourselves in the lobby downstairs. This whole story is a lie. But bless you all.”
Zendaya did not directly comment on the matter, but did publish a meme based on a panel from the comic. guard It’s in her own Story when Appling’s expression rises. The meme, in which one character rises strongly above the other, is the “Source?” of the latter. The other replies, “I made it up”.
