HOW TO USE THE BIRTH CONTROL PILL?
So, how to use birth control pills? What should be considered when using birth control pills? Dr. Sönmezer also gives the following information about the use of birth control pills:
- How birth control pills should be used varies depending on their type. Although the use of birth control pills, which generally consist of 21 and 28-day tablets, can be started within the first 5 days of the menstrual period, it is best to start on the first day of the menstrual cycle.
- These pills are used by taking 1 regularly every day for 21 or 28 days.
- Care should be taken to take the pills at the same time of the day.
- For those who are taking these pills for 21 days, even if there is no menstrual bleeding at the end of the pack, the use of the pill should be stopped for 7 days and the new pack should be started after this 7-day break.
- During this 7-day period, menstrual bleeding will occur. In 28-day pills containing relatively lower doses of hormones, the medication is continued without a break.
- Usually, menstrual bleeding begins when the last pills in the box are used. Even though the last drugs in the box do not contain hormones, these preferred drugs are used after the box is finished, continuing with the next box without a break, in order to avoid confusion.
- In order to prevent the effect of birth control pills from weakening and to prevent unwanted pregnancies, the use of the pill should be continuous and regular and should be taken at the same time every day.
- If you skip taking the tablet, the effectiveness of the birth control pill in preventing pregnancy decreases. If you realize that you have forgotten to use the birth control pill, you should take the tablet as soon as you realize it and continue taking the next pills at your normal time. If you realize later that you forgot to take the tablet, take the forgotten pill at the same time with the tablet you will take that day. Using 2 pills at the same time will not cause a problem. If less than 12 hours have passed since you forgot to take the medicine, your protection against pregnancy will not decrease, but if more than 12 hours have passed, be sure to consult your doctor as your protection against pregnancy may decrease.
CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE USE
- Before starting the birth control pill, it would be appropriate to consult a gynecologist and he/she will choose the birth control pill that is suitable for you according to your age, weight, menstrual cycle and medical history. Like any medication, it would be healthier to start and use birth control medication with your doctor’s recommendation.
