PEOPLE has an exclusive look at this indie thriller from writer-director Daniel Brown, which shows a twist of fate that leads to pulse-pounding action.
When a handful of people at a corner store on Christmas Eve see one of them winning the $156 million lottery, hapless Sterling (played by Cloud) decides to try his luck and take his shot.
In the clip, Sterling is perusing the store’s magazine section when he suddenly realizes he’s holding a ticket to the life of a millionaire. She attracts the attention of others by conspicuously hiding her face with a hoodie and tape.
What will happen next? Your Lucky Day‘s official synopsis and trailer is that “a dispute over a winning lottery ticket escalates into a deadly hostage situation.”
“Witnesses must decide exactly how far they will go and how much blood they are willing to shed for a share of $156 million,” the summary adds.
As Cloud’s character states in the trailer, “No one gets rich without committing crimes.”
Spencer Garrett appears as the lucky lottery winner; Jessica Garza, Elliot Knight, Mousa Hussein Kraish, Sterling Beaumon and Jason O’Mara star as witnesses, each pursuing their own version of the American Dream.
“There was a sense of them having an endearing toughness to them… You could see it,” Brown tells PEOPLE about pairing Cloud with the character Sterling. [he could make] It’s a hasty decision, but you still have a really good human heart. “That gave a sense of what Angus is all about.”
40-year-old Brown, who has directed music videos and commercials, makes his feature-length directorial debut with the film: Your Lucky Day. He adapted the feature-length version of his hit 2010 short film of the same name with the same basic premise about winning the lottery becoming an obstacle.

After seeing Cloud’s “soulful” performance as Fezco in season one on HBO EnthusiasmBrown recalls that the actor jumped at the opportunity to showcase his talents in the lead role. “It was really nice to be able to feel like this was just his movie.”
He adds that although filming took only 16 days in Los Angeles in late 2021, Cloud’s warm presence on set and, of course, his engaging quality on camera made it an unforgettable experience. “I feel the incredible loss of someone who had so much more to do,” Brown says. “I would love to see him in more movies… I hope others watch him and really appreciate what he can do.”
The film ends with a tribute to Cloud: a message that reads “For Angus.”
Your Lucky Day It premiered at Fantastic Fest 2023 in September. Well Go USA Entertainment will release the film in theaters on November 10 and on VOD on November 14.
