Turkish Urology Association President Prof. Dr. Bülent Semerci stated that Turkish men still have difficulty in going to the doctor to solve their sexual problems and that those who go cannot express their complaints and said, “Men who come to the urologist say “I have a urinary complaint.” When we talked a little and delved into the problem, they realized that their main purpose in coming to us was sexual dysfunction.”
“We understand,” he said.
Prof. is also the Head of the Urology Department of Ege University (EU) Faculty of Medicine. Dr. In his statement to the AA correspondent, Semerci explained that the Turkish Urology Association was founded in 1933 by the gathering of 14 urologists, and that he has been the chairman of the association since December 2013.
Stating that approximately 1600 urology specialists are members of their associations in Turkey, they have 10 branches, they provide social relations between urologists and carry out educational activities, Semerci stated that they share new developments with their members by organizing various congresses.
Semerci stated that the presidents of the Turkish Urology Association have always been elected from Istanbul and that he was very honored and proud to bring the presidency to Izmir.
“Turkish men are hesitant to talk about their sexual problems”
Stating that, as the Turkish Urology Association, it carries out activities to raise public awareness and provides information about what can be done and where to apply for sexual and urological diseases in the meetings it organizes, Semerci said:
“Turkey still has a closed society. We can consider Turkey as an eastern country. If we talk especially about men, urology is a sub-branch and one of its branches deals with the sexual functions of men. Men generally have difficulty in explaining these sexual dysfunctions to us. Men who come to urologists” “I have a urinary complaint,” he says. When we talk a little and delve into the problem, we understand that his main purpose in coming to us is sexual dysfunction. He says he came to us with a urinary complaint, but his primary purpose in coming to us is erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation and similar sexual dysfunctions. Of course, progress has been made in this regard compared to previous years. “Recessive behavior has decreased compared to before, but we are never like European countries or the USA. Sexual dysfunctions are treatable disorders. We seem to need a little more time to see a doctor about this issue.”
