The news that Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn broke up after being together for six years hit the Swifties like an atomic bomb in April, especially considering the breakup was due to her frustration with her fame. But that was nothing compared to the latest development in Swift’s love life, which proved to be a much harder pill to swallow.
Based on intimate dinners and paparazzi shots of the following mornings, the pop star seems to have made his way with The 1975 frontman Matty Healy, and that’s it. deep distress to many Swift fans.
Healy – known for whimsical performance antics, including spitting wine into a crowd, sucking a fan’s thumb, and writing lyrics like “We’re fucking in a car/We shoot heroin/We say controversial things just for fun”. sparked several uncomfortable controversies that made her a standout outlier among Swift’s previous clean lovers. (Except maybe John Mayer.)
Let’s start this year. Healy appeared to be giving a Nazi salute while performing at a show in January 1975 and saying “thanks Kanye, that’s cool”. Kanye West had, of course, unleashed a flood of publicly antisemitic remarks in the fall of 2022 that had him kicked out of all high-profile partnerships he had, making him persona non grata to most sensible people (except for Healy, apparently).
The following month, Healy appeared on The Adam Freidland Show, a podcast widely associated with the left-hand scumbag, and mentioned that he once sent a DM to rapper Ice Spice on Instagram.
Podcasts co-hosts Friedland and Nick Mullen promptly named the rapper “Inuit Spice Girl” and then mocked her Hawaiian and Chinese accents, saying, “This chubby Chinese lady. Yes, I rap and [make] music.’ Is that how they talk? Is that how Eskimos talk?”
Healy had no reaction to Friedland and Mullen and laughed with them, but later apologized for the incident after it sparked significant backlash.
In the same podcast interview, Friedland talked about Healy being found masturbating to Ghetto Gaggers pornography; Filled with racist language, the website advertises “extremely hard face fuck, ebony whores, ghetto double penetration, yellow discipline and interracial throat-banging.”
In the episode, Friedland talks about leaving a party at Healy’s house with a group of people, one of whom returns to get the water bottle and finds Healy masturbating to Ghetto Gaggers porn.
“You’re not exaggerating – it was 30 seconds, you were still waiting outside,” Healy told Friedland. “It came back, I was already in a rush. I was dressed as the ‘attack man’ so I had a shirt on and I think there was literally Ghetto Gaggers on TV – someone being brutally treated.
“Let’s say the best-case scenario is that Matty was totally kidding in that interview,” Swift fan Maddie Ambrose told The Daily Beast. “It’s still disgusting to joke about it. Thinking these websites are a joke makes it clear how ignorant they are about the privileges they hold and the way this content perpetuates so much racism. So even in the best case scenario, he is ignorant and uneducated and who is this [Swift] He wants to spend his time together.”
Similarly, Swift fan Phoebe M., when she first heard that Swift and Healy were dating, told The Daily Beast, “I was absolutely confused, and at first I was hoping it was fake.” “I’ve heard a lot about the things he’s been doing lately, especially the Nazi salute on stage and saying racist things about Chinese people, so when I started seeing pictures of them together, I was pretty horrified at first.”
Unfortunately, these discussions were just the tip of the iceberg. In 2020, at the height of the George Floyd protests, Healy drew criticism with a tweet, “If you truly believe ‘ALL LIVES IMPORTANT’, you must stop facilitating the end of blacks,” along with a link to his band’s song. “Let’s Love If We Do”, which led many to accuse him of choosing the Black Lives Matter movement to promote The 1975.
Healy apologized, deleted the tweet, and reposted the song’s message and music video separately, and then deactivated her account as the election got even more enraged.
“I’m really shocked that Taylor even considered being in a relationship with her given her past activism for Black Lives Matter,” Swift fan Jack Mythen told The Daily Beast. “[Healy] It’s disgusting to admit you’ve watched Ghetto Gaggers, a racist porn site.”
“I think if he accepts [Healy’s behavior] If Mythen openly says they’re not in a relationship or that their relationship was cut off because of her behavior, it should be publicly. “If he accepts his past actions and defends them, as it was not so long ago, I will be very disappointed.”
Besides, isn’t it a long time ago? In 2016, Healy said, “If I was dating Taylor Swift, I’d be like, ‘Damn! I’m NOT Taylor Swift’s boyfriend.’ You know, ‘Fuck it. HE.’ This is also a male issue, something that dehumanizes, castrates.”
“I can’t say that Matty has disappointed me – I’m not a fan of him, nor have I ever been,” one Swift fan, who asked not to be named, told The Daily Beast. “But I was disgusted to learn what he said on the podcast a few months ago, both the racist comments about Ice Spice and of course the revelations about young Black women getting downright racist torture porn. coerced and manipulated) For me as a POC that is totally disgusting and disgusting.
“I’m not naive enough to think that [Swift’s] The pressure for activism in 2018-2019 was not PR, of course it was, ”the anonymous fan continued. “But I also thought those were the things he cared about, or at least enough to do it minimally and not date an outright racist.”
