Saturday night live Cast member Molly Kearney literally landed in the Weekend Update guest seat on Saturday, where they critiqued the multiple anti-trans bills being considered in Republic state legislatures.
As they descended onto the set, Kearney, strapped into a harness, immediately bowed a little: “I’ve been hanging by my genitals for too long and I’m starting to feel like a Republican legislator… HELLO!”
They set fire to Republican efforts to restrict gender-affirming care for trans children across the country, saying their attempts to block that access are harming children.
There’s something about the word “trans” that makes you forget the word “child.” “If you don’t care about the lives of trans children, then you don’t care about the lives of these goddamn children.”
Kearney continued to use harnesses to switch between jokes, noting that some phrases were “code words” to amplify them. After these words—“lift up”—were used, Kearney was lifted back to the ceiling, delivering a poignant message to children who may have watched here.
“It’s wrong and you don’t have to be afraid, boys,” Kearney said. “Our job is to protect you and your job is to focus on being a child. It’s like me flying in the SNL sky: There’s a bunch of guys asking you about your crotch and checking when and where you can pee, but if you wait a bit, you’ll look up and realize: You’re flying, kid!
Announced as Kearney SNLNewcomers in September are Michael Longfellow, Devon Walker, and Marcello Hernandez’s first non-duo cast.
