At 20:01 on Wednesday, Tucker Carlson took his place in front of the camera for the whole world to see, except Fox News. Instead, the familiar face of the recently ousted television personality was front and center all over Twitter in what Seth Meyers describes as “a kind of proof-of-life video”… from a low-budget porn volcano to a fake doctor’s office.”
On Thursday night, Meyers scrutinized every last word and detail of Tucker’s bizarre video manifesto, including the needless close-up angle and the wood-paneled everything.
“Why are you zooming in from the sauna? If the Unabomber updates it and puts it on Airbnb, it looks like the Unabomber’s haven,” Meyers shared. “I also love carefully stitched details like the globe in the background. ooooh, a globe on the shelf! It’s like we’re saying to ourselves, ‘This son of a bitch is earthly!’ We have to think.”
In the video, Carlson made no mention of his vague abandonment by the network he’s run for half a dozen years. And while Meyers described much of what the testicle tanning aficionado had to say in the video as “completely pointless,” late night The host shared that Tucker “ends on a somewhat frustrating note.” In Tucker’s words:
“Honest people are strong when they say the truth calmly and without shame. At the same time, the liars who try to silence them are getting smaller and weaker… Where can you find Americans who are still speaking the truth? There isn’t much room left, but there is some and that’s enough. As long as you can hear the words, there is hope.”
But it was Tucker’s last words – “See you soon!” – He really seemed to startle Meyers. “Her A lot It’s chilling when a figure as low as Tucker ends a self-recorded video from an undisclosed location with the words ‘See you soon’. Then it just disappears,” he said. “This is how an abandoned husband ends the voicemail in a Movie of a Lifetime.”
