Quavo pays tribute to Takeoff on the occasion of the Migos rapper’s 29th birthday.
The 32-year-old Atlanta MC celebrated her first birthday since Takeoff’s death in November 2022 by posting a handful of clips and old photos of the uncle and niece duo on social media on Sunday.
In a clip posted on Quavo’s Instagram page, the deceased musician (his real name was Kirsnick Khari Ball) is seen examining a denim jacket and asking Quavo for his opinion on the subject.
Quavo dropped the note, “Happy Birthday @yrntakeoff can’t wait for days like this again”. “I believe we’ve been on the Rocket road all week GEEKD 😵💫 you 29 n—- 🚀♾🚀♾🚀♾🚀♾🚀♾🚀♾🚀♾🚀♾🚀♾🚀♾🚀♾🚀.”
Quavo shared a few more messages for Takeoff on his Instagram Story, and in a post referenced the duo’s October 2022 LP. Made For Infinity Links Only: “Happy Birthday, I Love You Phew Til Infinity.”
Another photo captioned “It’s Yo F —— Birthdayyyyyyy” showed the couple posing together in the early 2010s.
On Twitter, Quavo also shared a photo of his late niece with rocket emojis and an infinity symbol next to her: “Everybody Says Happy Birthday to My Nephew. I Miss You So Much!”
The rocket symbol is one that Quavo now keeps close as he plans to name his upcoming solo album. rocket power – It was named in Takeoff’s honor.
“This album is a true reflection of how I feel right now. Sometimes I’m OK, sometimes I’m Falling, sometimes I’m disappointed, sometimes I fall apart, but then I ALWAYS find my strength again,” he wrote. Album announcement in May. “I know everything may not be alright right now but the rocket showed me a way to make it RIGHT!”
“Rocket Power keeps me going. Rocket Power gives me fuel. Rocket Power will help us get through everything we’re going through,” Quavo continued.
While he has yet to reveal a release date for the LP, it has been teased months after Takeoff was shot dead on November 1 outside the front door of a downtown bowling alley in Houston.
Police have since revealed that there has been an argument outside the building that Takeoff was not involved in, but was caught in the crossfire. Suspect Patrick Xavier Clark is indicted on one count of murder by a grand jury in Texas as of last month.
At the Celebration of Life a few weeks after the Grammy-winning artist’s death, stars including Cardi B, Justin Bieber, and Drake, along with fellow Migos rapper Offset, paid tribute to Takeoff with their performances and personal reflections.
“There are no words or feelings that could aptly encapsulate the love so many have for him and the impact he has had on this world,” the official obituary provided by a representative said.
