Netflix phenomenon Squid Game streaming platform welcomes four new cast members for next season announced Saturday.
Returns to the South Korean survival drama series include Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-Hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo, and newcomers include Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon, and Yang Dong-. day. The series, which is about a deadly competition with multi-million dollar prizes, caused a sensation as one of the most watched series on Netflix, with 1.65 billion hours of views in just 28 days.
The second season is expected to drop in 2024.
Squid Game Lee Jung-jae became the first Asian actor to take home the Emmy Award for Outstanding Actor in a Drama, and swept the 2022 Emmy Awards with 14 nominations and six wins.
Its success has been so enormous that a spin-off, Squid Games: DifficultyIt will be released on Netflix in November.
However, the reality competition show has had its fair share of controversy, with reports of “battle zone”-like and freezing conditions apparently driving its real-life participants away on stretchers.
