It gives new meaning to “Wasted on You”.
Morgan Wallen wasted nearly 60,000 of his fans on Sunday by canceling his Oxford, Miss.
The country singer’s team made the announcement with an on-screen message at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium – after the opening performances Hardy, Ernest and Bailey Zimmerman had already given.
“Ladies and gentlemen, unfortunately Morgan has lost his voice and will not be able to perform tonight – so tonight’s show has been cancelled,” the message read.
“Please make your way to the stadium exits safely. Refunds for tonight [sic] The event will be available at the point of purchase.”
Wallen, 29, later wrote on his Instagram Stories that he “spent the day resting and talking”. [his] doctor and work through [his] vocal exercises before finally realizing that he still can’t “sing”.
“I’m so sorry,” he added. “I promise you guys, I tried everything I could.”
As she was leaving the Ole Miss football stadium, several concert-goers used social media to blast Wallen for last-minute cancellations of just three dates of the One Night at a Time World Tour.
“Totally disappointed at @MorganWallen!! He has been sitting in this stadium for 3 hours and just announced that the show has been cancelled!!! COMPLETE BULLS–T!!!” a fan tweeted.
“You can’t cancel a show 5 minutes before showtime. Period. If he was sick or had no voice, he knew it long before. pathetic” another twitter user wrote.
Others have expressed disappointment with the Vaught-Hemingway Stadium itself.
“I’m not so angry that I haven’t seen Morgan Wallen because I’ve seen him before. What I’m most disappointed with is that they knew this before the concert and allowed more than 80,000 people to buy drinks and products before canceling so everyone got their money’s worth.” one participant tweetedincorrectly states that the seating capacity of the venue is 64,038.
“Morgan Wallen is canceling at Oxford. Another big win at Vaught!” the other wrote sarcastically.
Even those who hated Wallen joined the conversation.
“Morgan Wallen’s inability to sing seems like a ridiculous excuse to cancel his show, considering it’s never stopped him before.” a troll jokedby giving an injection to the vocal skill of the actor.
“People behaving like this is the worst public announcement Morgan Wallen has ever made.” another mockery.
“This is what you get because you love Morgan Wallen,” a third critic tweeted.
“Morgan Wallen proves once again that he doesn’t deserve your money” accepted another.
“If you’re a fan of Morgan Wallen after all he’s done, you deserve it. “I don’t sympathize with that stadium,” he said. wrote another.
The Wallen representative did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for additional comment.
The “Sand in My Boots” singer is no stranger to controversy.
“Saturday Night Live” has canceled its scheduled 2020 performance after he was seen partying and making love to women without a mask at a college bar in Alabama at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Less than four months later, Wallen was caught on video screaming the N word on a drunken night in Nashville.
The former “The Voice” contestant’s record label Big Loud suspended him indefinitely after he used racial slurs, and the Country Music Association banned him from attending the 2021 awards ceremony.
Still, Wallen’s fans continued to support him, making the albums “Dangerous” and “One Thing at Time” successful on both music charts and streaming services.
