Minka Kelly tells literally everything in her new memoirs. tell me everything, On May 2, including some new details about her former relationship with him Friday night lights co-star Taylor Kitsch.
The book, which Kelly describes as “an homage to her mother and all working-class single mothers,” details her difficult childhood, abusive relationships, and eventual rise as one of Hollywood’s most employable actresses. Kelly also has a lot to tell about her highly publicized romantic life. Since starring in the NBC hit show Friday night lightsThe actress is linked to big celebrities like Chris Evans, John Mayer, Derek Jeter, Jesse Williams, and Trevor Noah. However, only one celebrity mentions her ex-partner by name.
In the book, Kelly writes about her failed relationship with Kitsch, who plays the troubled football player Tim Riggins, and how it distanced her from other actresses on the show. Interestingly enough, her character, cheerleader Lyla Garrity, had very little friendly interaction with the series’ other heroines during her four-season tenure.
“All the effort I might have invested in connecting consistently with the girls on the show went to Taylor,” she writes in the episode “Cancer.” “When my relationship with Taylor became toxic, I had no one to turn to.”
In the Emmy-winning series, Kelly and Kitsch’s characters were also in a rather turbulent romantic relationship. A key plotline in Season 1 is an explosive love triangle between herself, Riggins, and best friend Jason Street (Scott Porter). The two end their occasional romance amicably when Garrity leaves for college.
Inside tell me everything, admits that she “gets together” very quickly with Kitsch. The actress also writes that she was warned by him. Friday night lightsexecutive producer Peter Berg shouldn’t have wooed his co-star after realizing their chemistry.
The author writes that neither party was mature enough to handle uncomfortable working situations after parting ways. He adds that they eventually broke up and reunited “more times” [she] [could] to count.”
“Every time we broke up, life on and off set got very difficult,” she says. “We were young and had little means to handle our feelings and personal grievances. On the days we had to work together and we broke up, she didn’t want to be in the hair and makeup trailer with me at the same time.”
“We couldn’t go together in the van from base camp to the set for the same reason,” he continues. “The tension on set was high in those days and everyone was feeling the awkwardness.”
Kelly continues to write about the lack of support she received from her fellow actresses compared to Kitsch after ending the relationship. However, he notes that the now 42-year-old actor is more comfortable “sharing his feelings” with the cast than he is.
“I would come to work with a smile on my face thinking I was a pro, while everyone else would feel sorry for the guy whose heart was broken,” he says. “My coworkers wouldn’t take me out for drinks after work to mend my broken heart; they were taking he outside.”
When Friday night lights airing, Kelly and Kitch’s relationship was mostly kept secret, and no actors publicly endorsed the relationship. However, rumors of their love were circulating on the Internet. In a 2018 radio interview on Andy Cohen Live, name Star eventually confirmed that they were dating when Cohen mentioned Kelly, but didn’t reveal any details.
Overall, she sees her fallout with Kitsch as “too young and too sensitive.” Still, she says the relationship taught her a lesson about openness and vulnerability.
“Vulnerability breeds connectivity, as evidenced by the results of both our coping mechanisms,” he writes. My tough guy approach just left me alone. If you act like you don’t need anyone, if no one around you knows you, surely no one will be there.”
