Many “RuPaul’s Drag Race” alumni criticized the “The Little Mermaid” remake for not hiring a weird make-up artist for Ursula, prompting Peter King to defend his work on movie star Melissa McCarthy.
Speaking to Insider Friday, the Oscar-winning actress described recent reactions as “ridiculous” and “very offensive”.
“Why can’t I do as good a job as a weird makeup artist?” asked the exit.
“It’s okay to try to claim it and if that’s what they want to do, but don’t insult people for not being what they want them to be,” King continued.
“Personally [doesn’t] Get the criticism that starts after a while” Twitter video of McCarthy being turned into a villain went viral
“Yes, I’m very old now, so it’s okay,” he said. “I understand that too, but you know, a make-up artist or make-up artist can design make-up. They don’t have to depend on the nature of what they’re doing.”
In the original Disney movie that came out in 1989, Ursula was specifically modeled after drag legend Divine.
Composer Alan Menken confirmed the character’s inspiration in an interview with April Entertainment Weekly.

Meanwhile, McCarthy said he was “100 percent” investigating transvestites in preparation for his role in the new movie, which will hit theaters on May 26.
“I’m a big, big fan of drag shows and all of their art and entertainment,” the actress said last month. “I’ve been going to shows since I shouldn’t have been to shows.”
The 52-year-old joked, “There’s a transvestite living inside of me. I’m always on the verge of working with him full time.
But Art Simone, Kerri Colby, and more transvestites criticized the look King designed for McCarthy.
