Like any busy mom, Melissa McCarthy admits her beauty regimen has evolved over the years.
In her cover story this week, she told PEOPLE, “As we get older, we’re like, ‘Oh, everything we’ve been told since grade school was true?’ “Maybe I shouldn’t have gotten into a baby oiled car in Illinois. This is a true story. My older sister [Margie] and I, the Irishman, should never have gone out. We were like, ‘What if baby oil and aluminum foil help?’ And we used to get in a car because we thought we’d tan better if it got hotter. We grew up on a farm. We weren’t sophisticated.”
When it comes to facials, 52-year-old McCarthy is much more savvy. “up from here [she motions above her neck] “I feel like I’m really alive,” she says. And then here, my skin might need some work. Super juicy and then alligator. But I’m working on it guys. This is my journey.”

McCarthy as Ursula in the upcoming live-action movie The Little Mermaidsays her life with her husband, actor-director, 49, Ben Falcone, and her two daughters, Vivian, 15 and Georgette, 13, didn’t allow me to spend much time on myself. “I mean, I like it when I do it but usually someone knocks on the door or says ‘Can you take me to Michaels? Or, I’m like ‘My geckos need worms’ and ‘I’m literally in the tub’. So I go out and say, ‘Wait, let me do my regimen.’ Not like.
When the actress isn’t working, she usually starts her day at 5 a.m. “I go downstairs, make a latte, listen to the news. If the weather is nice, I go out and play golf in the garden and let my crazy dogs out. I like to wake my kids up. I always try to make them a fun breakfast. That’s it.” I work hard and I go a lot sometimes just because I’m home and if everyone is home I’m in heaven.”
Is he religious about washing his face at night? “I have two versions. [makeup]I do all my good work and the hot towel and everything,” she says. [she points to her professionally made-up face]What you see now is how I sleep [she crosses her arms over her chest]. I go to bed like a corpse. I sat back and said ‘Good for me’ when I woke up the next morning. I can sleep and I can’t move.’ my makeup [artist] ‘Oh, that’s not good. You have to wash them all.” “Look what you’ve done today. I can’t do that.” So I sleep like a complete corpse and I wake up and I go and look in the mirror and it’s like, ‘This is a full lash girl.’ A full lash on Tuesday.
