Many Taylor Swift fans were shocked by the news that she broke up with her longtime boyfriend Joe Alwyn earlier this year – and were even more surprised to learn that she was moving on with 1975’s Matty Healy.
While the British singer has been making headlines for years, it has often been for the wrong reasons.
Known for her fan kissing and carefree demeanor, Healy has found herself in hot waters on many different occasions.
Scroll through for a breakdown of the singer’s most controversial moments.
kissing the fans
Healy became known for her audacious acts on stage during concerts, including her love for kissing her fans.
The 1975 frontman, no matter their gender, often puts a lucky fan on stage and makes out with them in front of a crowd.
During a concert, the “Robbers” singer took things a step further by sucking on a woman’s fingers and sparked an online debate.
However, he left the tradition in January 2023 after Swift attended one of his shows.
“I’m not kissing anyone in front of Taylor Swift, show some respect. Not in front of the Queen,” Healy told the crowd at the time.
eating raw meat
Healy caused a commotion after eating a raw steak while touching her on stage at Madison Square Garden in November 2022.
During the performance, the shirtless singer fell to her knees chewing meat between songs.
“I’m sorry if you came with your dad and I’m touching my d-k. It’s your fault for bringing your dad,” he told the audience.
It seems Healy liked her uncooked snack as she did the same on another show a few months later.
Commentary on Kanye West’s anti-Semitism
Amid reactions to Kanye West’s anti-Semitic comments, Healy was accused of giving the Nazi salute while walking on stage during a performance of “Let’s Love If We Did”.
The song specifically addresses West by name, which is when the alleged salute took place.
While many fans called the move satire, claiming that Healy was actually addressing the Nazis rather than supporting them, others criticized the singer for making the move in the first place.
While Healy has yet to address the incident, he denounced the “Donda” rapper on the “Adam Friedland Show” in February 2023.
“He’s definitely someone dealing with and has mental health issues, but that’s not an excuse for being anti-Semitism,” he said, noting that while he likes “the boundaries being blurred,” he thinks West is out. liner.
Rapper teases Ice Spice
On the same podcast, hosts Adam Friedland and Nick Mullen made a lot of racist comments about rapper Ice Spice while Healy sat idly by.
During the episode, the “Somebody Else” musician laughed as the podcast hosts mimicked Chinese accents and called Ice Spice “Inuit Spice Girl” and “a chubby Chinese lady.” At one point, the singer even encouraged the hosts to imitate the Japanese working in the concentration camps.
The podcast episode was so offensive that multiple platforms like Spotify removed it, causing Healy to later apologize to the “Princess Diana” host.
“I feel a little bad and I’m a little sorry if I offended you. Ice Spice, I’m sorry,” he said during a concert. Because I don’t want Ice Spice to think I’m an ad-k. I love you, Ice Spice. I’m so sorry.”
porn confession
As if that wasn’t enough, Healy also made a shocking confession about her porn preferences in her disturbing podcast episode.
The singer recalled a time when two hosts visited her while watching “hardcore pornography” on “Ghetto Gaggers,” a porn site known for featuring videos of the humiliation and brutality of women of color.
“I was dressed as the ‘jump man’ so my shirt was open. Like you said, I think literally ‘Ghetto Gaggers’ was on TV,” he explained. “Only someone is being cruelly treated. … I’m like, ‘It’s okay, it’s okay’. Ten minutes would be fine, but I was worried 30 seconds was almost offensive.
Calling Himself “Messiah”
Although Healy has been an outward critic of religion for most of her career, the singer shocked her fans after she referred to herself as “Christ” many times.
In a 2016 interview with the Guardian, the rocker said he was never misquoted, doubling down on the fact that he should be held in high esteem.
“There’s an element of feeling a bit like Christ,” he said. “Well, not someone who’s here to save humanity, but someone that the world really revolves around him.”
Insulting Taylor?
Before Healy and Swift were reportedly “infatuated”, the rocker was horrified at the idea of dating her.
Amid speculation that the couple were dating in 2014, Healy became extremely defensive about their relationship, saying the “Bad Blood” singer “didn’t have a huge impact on my life.”
“It’s interesting to me that the world is so interested in Taylor Swift,” she told Q Magazine at the time.
“The reason I say this is if I had [properly] If I was dating Taylor Swift, I’d say, ‘Damn, I’m not Taylor Swift’s boyfriend. You know, ‘Fk. HE.’ It’s also a man’s issue, a masculinity reduction [sic]the castration thing.”
After being scolded for appearing misogynistic remarks, Healy later backed off and revealed that she wasn’t trying to “shadow” Swift and her love life.
She tweeted at the time, “I’ve said countless times that I find her to be one of the most gracious, hardworking, creatively talented and beautiful women I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting.” “I personally have a lot of respect and admiration for him. Why shouldn’t I?”
