Lupita Nyong’o has celebrated the power of friendship since her recent split from boyfriend Selema Masekela.
On Thursday, the 40-year-old actress celebrated her close friend Palmer Hefferan in an Instagram post that featured photos of the duo together over the years, as well as solo shots of Hefferan.
“Recently, when my life was turned upside down due to heartbreak, Palmer quickly came to my side and helped me get through the hardest days of adjusting to my new reality,” Nyong’o wrote in her caption. apparently referring to his separation from Masekela.
Nyong’o began her term by celebrating her friend’s unwavering loyalty over the years.
“Palmer is the kind of friend I can count on, in good times and bad,” he wrote. “We don’t have to talk every day, but when we do, we pick up exactly where we left off, as if the time wasn’t completely gone.”
The Academy Award winner explained that the duo first met as roommates in drama school and “found a kindred spirit in each other.” “Especially in the kitchen!” she joked.
We Star went on to share information about their friendship and how her former roommate stuck by her side throughout the years. Nyong’o continued her post, sharing how her friend keeps coming to her while talking about her recent “heartbreak.”
“She cooked me delicious meals, found therapy activities to distract me, cried with me, and made me laugh until I shed more joyful tears.” Nyong’o continued: “She never tired of being the service she gave me, and the greatest gift she gave to my life was helping me get my first pet, Yoyo.”
The new cat owner admitted: “Now every time I look at her and hug her, I’m reminded of the selfless love my sister showed me from another gentleman.”
Nyong’o concluded her thread by thanking Hefferan for his kindness. “I can never repay him for the kindness he showed me, and the beauty of friendship is that it’s never about evening the score!”
He said: “But I have every intention of trying… Truly, deeply thank you, P!”
Hefferan is a Tony-nominated sound designer who recently worked on Broadway. Penelope, Nyong’o pointed out.
While the actor celebrated his friend’s career achievements, he also gave us a glimpse into their lives. Black Panther Star shared how the two “defied college norms” and cooked meals for each other when one was “too swamped with school work to do his fair share at home.”

Nyong’o’s praise for Hefferan comes weeks after she announced her split from Masekela, 52, in a heartfelt Instagram post on Oct. 19. The actor has since appeared at GO Campaign’s 2023 GO Gala, even thanking her. Instagram followers for their kindness.
“Thank you for the kindness shown to me in sharing my news of heartbreak,” Nyong’o wrote in an Instagram Story message last month. “Words of encouragement mean more to me than I expected. They are like a balm.”
