It’s still fashionable.
A source says Kim Kardashian will be attending the 2023 Met Gala despite initial thoughts that she might not be invited.
Back in March, Page Six heard that May’s event, known as fashion’s Super Bowl, would be Kardashian-free after her entire family of reality stars joined en masse for the first time in 2022.
Sources previously said that Vogue boss Anna Wintour pressed the guest list at her annual fashion banquet and no Kardashians made the cut.
But now we are told that Kim, the most famous in the clan, will be joining.
We’ve also heard that the reality star won’t be the only one in her celebrity family to walk the steps of the Met Museum on fashion’s biggest party night—but there’s no word on her other sibling getting a gilded invitation. (Best guess: Kendall!)
Last year, Kourtney and Khloé Kardashian attended the party for the first time. Kris, Kendall, and Kylie Jenner have walked the carpet before, but none have been quite as regular as Kim.
The reality star first attended the Met Gala with her husband, Kanye West, in 2013 when she was pregnant with their first child.
She’s been a fixture at the event ever since, drawing attention with outfits like the Thierry Mugler’s “wet” look of 2019. She even worked with the famous corseter Mr. Pearl, who taught her special breathing techniques to match the outfit.
She went viral in 2021 in a polarized full black cover-up dress by Balenciaga that was turned into a series of hilarious memes.
Last year, she faced backlash for wearing the famous Jean Louis dress Marilyn Monroe wore in 1962 when she sang “Happy Birthday, Mister President” to John F. Kennedy.
Many felt that Kim should not be allowed to wear the historic garment to preserve it, including fashion designer Bob Mackie, who worked for Louis and designed the dress.
Kim became the center of anger when she was accused of allegedly damaging the seams of the iconic dress.
Ripley’s Believe It Or Not representative, who lent her the dress, issued a statement reassuring the public: “Whenever we felt the dress was in danger of ripping, or we felt uncomfortable about anything, we always had the opportunity to do so. To say we weren’t going to continue with this.
Kim, who famously said she lost 16 pounds in three weeks to fit into the dress, simply wore the rug look and then transformed into a replica.
There is no word on which designer Kim will be joining this year.
Organized by Wintour and Vogue in conjunction with the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, the event takes place on May 1 with the theme “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty”.
Some applauded the idea that the Kardashians would not attend the premiere. Bethenny Frankel, “Maybe [Anna] He has extracted all the juice from that lemon and now he wants to classify it.
