Although Mayim Bialik reportedly chose to withdraw from her Danger! In homage to the Writers Guild of America strike, hosting missions in the show’s final week, the show will apparently continue.
By deadline, Ken Jennings—the Danger! The legend, hosted by Bialik on a rotating basis, will take the podium “as a result of Bialik’s decision”. Jennings’ representatives did not immediately respond to The Daily Beast’s request for comment.
Danger! a WGA show, Deadline reports, and some of its writers, including Michele Loud, Jim Rhine, and Billy Wisse, have reportedly joined the strike line. (The trade publication states that writers complete their assignments ahead of the season and strike.)
The WGA strike began on May 2, halting multiple productions as writers struggled for livable wages, protections against artificial intelligence, and a reasonable pay structure to fix what the broadcast revolution had broken. (Read: leftovers.) In some cases, these production cuts are directly Support from illiterate workers, including IATSE and Teamsters, whose members have shown their solidarity by refusing to cross the WGA’s strike line in more than one series.
Some artists, like Drew Barrymore, who withdrew from hosting the MTV Movie & TV Awards in light of the strike, likewise avoided work that could help support “business as usual” in Hollywood and undermine writers’ goals.
This inter-union solidarity is encouraging for strike writers as well as other unions. (The Directors Guild of America (DGA) began its own deliberations on May 10, and the SAG-AFTRA actors association will follow it this summer.)
Danger! producer Sony Pictures Television first announced Bialik and Jennings as Trebek’s permanent replacements last summer. Deadline reports that the final episodes of this season will be filmed May 16-19 at the Sony Pictures lot in Culver City.
