It’s time to “Leave” Los Angeles for him.
Kelly Clarkson is happy to move her eponymous talk show to New York after her divorce from Brandon Blackstock and finding Los Angeles “alone”.
“I think COVID points to many things. “Most of us haven’t been able to do it from a relationship perspective,” Clarkson said on Thursday’s show “Today,” referring to her and Blackstock’s 2020 divorce.
“It also proved that I never really liked living in Los Angeles.”
The 41-year-old “Kelly Clarkson Show” host added that Los Angeles was “not for her at all” during her 20 years there.
Noting that he felt isolated from his family and closest friends, he said, “I never wanted to live there.”
“It was just me and my children along that shore. My whole family lives on this beach,” he said of the East Coast. “So he got lonely.”
And the “Stronger” singer said she was “honest” about her negative feelings.
“I am alone there. It’s not like ‘I need a boyfriend’. Like when you’re alone, you miss your family, you miss having any family or that kind of relationship,” she said.
Fortunately, Clarkson’s talk show is moving from Los Angeles to the Big Apple for its renewed season, NBC confirmed in May.
Clarkson has previously talked about how excited she is to be moving across the country.
“We’re not going anywhere in LA. I came here and that won me over,” he said Wednesday with Andy Cohen at a SiriusXM City Hall. I know why.My ex doesn’t like living in a city like this but I’ve never done it.
“I was literally looking for someone [network] heads and say, ‘Listen, my life has been a dumpster fire and I’m really unhappy in L.A. and I don’t know if I’m going to continue in L.A. What are our thoughts on possibly moving this to New York?’”
Clarkson said she was “extremely supportive” of NBC’s decision to move the show to the East Coast, and that she and Blackstock’s two children – 9-year-old daughter River and 7-year-old son Remington were also supportive.
“I take the subway. My kids love it. They get very angry when we get in a car, and that’s why they like the subway because they feel free,” he said.
“But still, I like to hang around. This city, what attracts me the most is that everyone here lives their own life, supporting people, but not living your life by proxy.”
Clarkson filed for divorce from Blackstock, 46, in June 2020 after nearly seven years of marriage. The exes had a bitter divorce battle and were not able to reach an agreement until two years later.
Last week, the “American Idol” graduate admitted that she stayed in her marriage much longer than she should have because she didn’t want to feel like a failure.
“When I’m in it… I’m like, ‘I can do this,'” the musician told host Glennon Doyle on the “We Can Do Hard Things” podcast. “I can deal with so many things. I can control my actions. I can control my reactions.”
“I can do that and reach out to this person and get over it. And there’s a little bit of ego that gets in your way.”
In the end, she had to do what was best for herself to be a better mother.
“Then I can say [the divorce]I am a much better mother. Because I think that when you are honest with yourself, you can be honest with others as well.”
