The Manhattan District Attorney released on Tuesday new details of a domestic dispute in which actor Jonathan Majors allegedly drove a woman and his lawyers filed a new charge.
Majors was arrested on March 25 for allegedly “hitting, pushing, kicking” and otherwise harming a woman during a dispute in New York. In the updated complaint, the woman states that the incident began around 12:40 a.m. in downtown Manhattan when Majors allegedly “pulled her right middle finger, causing bruising, swelling and severe pain.”
“I observed further [Majors] “Grab my right arm, put it behind my body, and with his hands he bends my right forearm and right middle finger, causing severe pain in my right forearm and right middle finger.” “I observed further [Majors] He hit my right ear with his hand, causing severe pain and a tear behind my right ear.”
The woman added that Majors pushed her “with both hands” into a car and urged her to fall backwards. Prosecutors previously said the incident left “minor wounds to the head and neck”.
The last details alleged about the attack came soon after the incident. the Land of Lovecraft The actor showed up via Zoom for his Manhattan state court appearance. Majors face third-degree misdemeanor charges; second degree aggravated harassment; third-degree attempted attack; and secondary harassment.
After the brief hearing, Major’s lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, told The Daily Beast that her client was innocent and insisted that the case was “a witch hunt with baseless allegations against Jonathan Majors.”
“Instead of denying the allegations in the face of the woman’s outright lies, the prosecutor adjusted the charges to fit the woman’s new lies,” Chaudhry said.
The lawyer later argued that Majors was the real victim on the night of the attack. He claimed that when Majors showed the officer responding on the night of the incident his injuries, the officer looked at the actor in the face and “taunted him by saying that if the officer slapped Mr. Majors, the officer would not break his finger”. ”
“None of the white officers present investigated Mr. Majors’ attack. Worse still, the District Attorney did not indicate his intention to bring charges against the woman or even to investigate the truth,” he said. This glaring double standard highlights the racial prejudice that permeates the criminal justice system.”
Chaudhry did not provide further details regarding this alleged incident with the officer, and the District Attorney’s Office declined to comment.
Since his arrest, Majors’ legal team has released a series of evidence pertaining to the incident. faith III The actor is innocent, including surveillance video of the alleged victim being at a club after the alleged attack. Majors’ lawyer also insisted that his client called the police on the day of his arrest, concerned about the “mental health” of his accuser. Chaudhry posted text messages that he says provide context and clear the Majors of the March 25 incident.
“They assured me you won’t be charged,” writes an anonymous sender in one of the messages. “When they saw the wounds on me, they said they had to arrest you as per protocol and they knew we were fighting.”
Another text reads: “I said it was my fault for trying to pick up your phone. I just got out of the hospital.” The last of the alleged messages denies that the drowning occurred, but also describes the sender as “breaking down and fainting.”
Chaudhry hinted on Tuesday that his team had obtained more video evidence to prove Majors’ innocence, but hesitated to share it, fearing that the District Attorney would allow the woman to “change her story.”
Since his arrest, Majors’ career has apparently plummeted. His management and PR firm fired him, as did a series of upcoming productions and campaigns. Last month, Variation He also reported that the alleged survivor of an undisclosed number of additional abuses cooperated with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.
The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office placed a full temporary protection order on Majors’ alleged victim last month – Chaudhry described the decision as “disturbing”. A District Attorney spokesman said on April 27 that a judge issued a temporary order to the victim at the request of the government and “with the approval of the defense attorney”.
