He knew “What a Man Should Do”.
Nick Jonas was his wife Priyanka Chopra’s biggest support system during their 1-year-old daughter Malti’s months-long stay in the NICU.
“I remember [Jonas] Chopra told Today in a cover story published Thursday while remembering her daughters’ health struggles.
“And she said, ‘Just get in the car with me. And we went to the hospital.”
The 40-year-old “Citadel” actress added that Jonas, 30, has been by her side taking care of her daughters since they welcomed her as surrogate in January 2022.
“He was born and has never left us, ever since he took his first breath.”
Chopra described her husband as “the kindest, most generous, kind, considerate man” and also added that he was “extremely intelligent and patient”.
The “Quantico” alum reflected the strength Matli had to muster during her harrowing 100-day stay in the NICU after her birth.
“I don’t think this was our test. I think it was his test,” Chopra said. “I realized very, very early on that I didn’t have the luxury of being afraid or weak because he was scared and weak.
“And as her mother, I had to be her strength. I had to make him feel that he wasn’t alone at all times… that we had him.”
When Malti was finally able to return home, Chopra had to adjust to parenting outside the hospital.
“[In the NICU]you know your child is alive because you can see their heartbeat [on the monitor]. “I couldn’t sleep for days because now all of a sudden he’s home without a monitor,” he said. “I put my ear to his chest. I would wake up every few minutes to see if he was okay. It went on like this for weeks.”
These days, Chopra prioritizes being a mom after the workday is over and goes straight to bath time with her little one.
“I’m not available from now on. We do bath time, story time, bedtime,” she said.
But when Malti is completely withdrawn, she and the “Jealous” singer still make time for each other and their social lives.
“And then it’s our time [for me and Nick] Whether we … meet up with friends or sit down and watch a movie together,” he said.
The movie star said that being a mother made her want to devote time to everything and “conquer the world”.
“When I wake up and do a million things, I can do them really well because I know I’m back home to my family,” Chopra said. “And that’s a big priority for me now.”
Although Copra and Jonas were spotted with their little ones in Mumbai, India last month, their toddlers rarely appeared in public.
Malti’s face was first seen when she made her public debut while her father and brothers, Kevin Jonas, 35, and Joe Jonas, 33, were honored with stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in January.
Prior to that, Chopra and Nick had shared photos of their children covering their faces with emojis on social media. However, now they proudly post photos of their lovers on Instagram.
The couple started dating in 2018 and got engaged just two months later. They got married later that December.
Chopra revealed that she froze her eggs before meeting Nick last month.
“I felt such freedom. I did it in my early 30s. “I can continue on an ambitious battle path that I want to achieve,” he said on the “Armchair Expert” podcast. “I wanted to get to a certain place in my career.”
