In his 2019 lawsuit, Sanderson accused Paltrow of rear-ending him while skiing with an instructor, and also claimed the ski instructor filed a false report at the time claiming Paltrow did not cause the accident.
A rep for Paltrow told PEOPLE at the time: “This lawsuit is completely meritless. Anyone who reads the facts will understand that.”
Paltrow also denied the allegations in a countersuit filed next month, claiming Sanderson hit her from behind and is now trying to “exploit her fame and fortune.”
Sanderson first sued Paltrow for $3.1 million in 2019, but a judge later ruled that Paltrow could only sue for $300,000 in damages. Meanwhile, the actor filed a lawsuit for $1 and attorney fees.
Throughout the two-week trial, the jury was tasked with determining what Paltrow and Sanderson were doing before and after the incident on Feb. 26, 2016, who the downhill skier was and who hit whom.
Then, after less than three hours of deliberations, the jury in Park City, Utah, found that Paltrow was not at fault and Sanderson was 100 percent at fault.
Following the hearing, Paltrow said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE: “I felt that admitting a false allegation compromised my integrity. I am pleased with the outcome and appreciate and thank the hard work of Judge Holmberg and the jury.” “For their thoughtfulness in handling this case.”
Meanwhile, Sanderson’s attorney, C. Peter Sorensen, said in a statement, “We are disappointed in the outcome, but we love and support the legal process. We thank Judge Holmberg, the jury, and the staff for all their efforts as we evaluate and discuss where to go from here.”
