Every bad guy needs a bad friend and Flo Milli found just that in Ice Spice!
During the weekend’s Hot 97’s Summer Jam, Ice surprised UBS Arena with an exclusive appearance of Flo, who told PEOPLE backstage that this was their first in-person meeting since the duo bonded online.
“It wasn’t a last minute thing, but a little bit. We decided that he was going to take me out, so I’m really glad to hear that. I’m so happy the girls are getting together,” says Flo. It’s a women-dominated event led by Grammy winner Cardi B.”[Ice and I] DM me all the time, but we’ve never met before.”
At the Long Island arena, Flo performed the Bronx rapper’s 2022 hit “Conceited” in the middle of the Sunday set. Now, he says meeting Ice face-to-face for the first time was a “fun” experience—especially in front of a sold-out crowd.
“I can’t always meet up with friends,” she tells PEOPLE. “As a celebrity, you’re busy working or alone, so it’s fun to see my peers in person and really talk and catch up.”
The couple haven’t shared a runway together yet, but as Flo explains, she’s not overlooking anything. “It’s possible,” he says about a potential future collaboration with Ice. “Damn, he’s in the mood! I don’t know! He gives this, he gives that.”
And as for his solo material, it’s been less than a year since the 2022 album was released. Are You Still Here Ho? The 23-year-old presenter is ready to “go ahead” creatively.
“I’m very creative right now,” says Flo. “I’ve really been locked in the studio all year and the things I do are very different, but still Flo Milli s—.”
“But I was much more creative and vulnerable in my music. I’m excited for this to drop… It’s time, we have to keep it going. I’m ready. It’s going to be a fun summer.”
Ice and Flo’s Summer Jam surprise comes a month after Flo shut down online comparisons between herself and other female rappers.
In early May, Twitter users compared the two, but Flo insisted she didn’t want her name included in these conversations. “I wish you would drop this tired-ass narrative about my career that you love to push,” he wrote on Twitter. “and stop talking about me trying to humiliate another artist, that’s WEIRDDD. I’m doing great, I started traveling the world with my talent when I was broke and I’m only 23.. please RELAX.”
For hip-hop fans, Sunday’s event was a reminder of how talented women can dominate a festival. The women starring Cardi, in addition to GloRilla, Coi Leray, Ice, Flo, Scar Lip, Lola Brooke, Kali and more, made Summer Jam an unforgettable night in New York.
