Emma Stone is reborn.
On Thursday, Searchlight Pictures released the first teaser trailer for director Yorgos Lanthimos’ next movie. Poor ThingsIt stars 34-year-old Stone as a woman named Bella who is brought back to life by a scientist played by Willem Dafoe.
The short teaser briefly shows Bella waking up electrocuted on the medical examination table.
The trailer teases the rest of the movie, in which Dafoe appears as 67-year-old injured scientist Mark Ruffalo, Ramy Youssef, and Jerrod Carmichael to join Bella on a steamboat in the ocean.
“I find it fascinating to be alive,” Bella says before the teaser shows her spitting out food and slapping a bewildered Duncan (Ruffalo) in the face.

An official synopsis of the film calls the film “the incredible story and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter, a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter.”
Bella proves to be “eager to learn” under the scientist’s watch, but soon escapes on a whirlwind adventure across the continents with “a cunning and depraved lawyer, Duncan Wedderburn. Freed from the prejudices of her time, Bella develops a determined purpose in standing up for equality and freedom. ”
The film is directed by Lanthimos from 2018, his latest feature film. FavoriteHe also played Stone and received 10 Oscar nominations. Olivia Colman won Best Actress for her role that year. FavoriteStone was nominated for Best Supporting Actress.
Stone is a producer on it. Poor Things and seems to have developed a close collaborative relationship with filmmaker Lanthimos; he and Favorite cast mate Joe Alwyn and 67-year-old Dafoe are also working together on his next film. AND.
In May 2022, Stone told reporters in Athens that it was a “great gift” to work with Lanthimos after appearing in his 30-minute short film. bleatingpublished last year.
“I don’t know if it was the hardest project I’ve ever done, but it was definitely a challenge,” Stone said at a press conference at the time. “I could talk for hours about what I love about working with Yorgos.”
Lanthimos’ approaching Poor Things Written by Tony McNamara, who wrote both. Favorite and Stone’s 2021 Disney movie Cruella. Christopher Abbott (girls) is also among the cast of the film.
