Cedric ‘Beastie’ Jones, who starred in the film liberation He was a boxer and he died. He was 46 years old.
The death of the actor and athlete was confirmed at the boxing gym on Sunday.
“We are saddened to announce the passing of Beastie Boxing Gym Founder Cedric ‘Beastie’ Jones,” his company said in a statement posted on Instagram.
“Cedric was a loving father, devoted husband, caring son, brother, community leader and an incredible friend who inspired others,” the statement continued. “He truly wanted everyone to be the best version of themselves. He was a gift. Cedric dedicated his life to helping people in and out of the gym,” the statement continued.
The statement said Jones was remembered as someone who “inspired people and helped them achieve things they previously thought were impossible.”
The post, which featured a smiling photo of the entrepreneur, ended with the words: “Thank you Cedric for building our community. We will always miss you.”
According to the information shared by the gym, Jones died on October 16.
After the news of his death, liberation Director Antoine Fuqua expressed his condolences on social media.
“Greetings to my good brother and friend. “You were always the light of the room and the light of the set,” he began on Instagram.
Fuqua’s memorial service also included a screen recording of Jones praying.
“You will be deeply missed and loved forever. MAY THE WIND ALWAYS BE UNDER YOUR WINGS, CHAMPION, as you ascend to the heavens. Dream team forever🙏🏿💪🏿✊🏿,” Fuqua continued.
During his prayer, Jones is seen explaining how he was given the nickname “The Beast.”
“The beast within me stems from the God within me,” the actor said.
He also expressed gratitude for his loved ones and his ability to help others.
“Thank you for my wife, thank you for my children, thank you for the positive individuals in my life,” he said. “I pray for growth, I pray for prosperity, I pray for strength, I pray to be able to motivate and inspire people to be better – not just in the gym, but in life.”
Jones is survived by his wife, Barbie Jones, and children Brooklyn, Braxton and Bryston. A GoFundMe has been set up to support his family.
The cause of death was not shared with the public.
Last week, his wife asked supporters to gather in his honor to run from Beastie Gym to the Manhattan Beach Pier. Those attending the Oct. 22 event were encouraged to wear black and white in solidarity with the Jones family.
