Actress Elle Fanning says she lost the role as a teenager because she was seen as “unfit”.
“I never told this story, but I was working on a movie. I don’t think they even made it, but it was a father-daughter road trip comedy,” he said.
Fanning explained that he was “16 years old” at the time, and recalled that “one person” said, “Oh, he didn’t get it because he couldn’t do the father-daughter road trip comedy.”
“This is so disgusting. And now it’s called ‘What a disgusting pig!’ I can laugh like that.”
“I was very guarded,” he admitted. “I have a great manager and manager who has been with me since I was 8 or 9, the same people.”
While Fanning has always been “highly confident” in herself, she acknowledged that the dynamics surrounding her upbringing were not common.
“You’re growing up in public, and it’s weird,” he said. “I look at paparazzi pictures of me when I’m 12 and say, ‘Is it good to see your own mirror like that at that age?’ I will think.”
“I don’t think it hurt me,” he added, “but it certainly made me self-aware.”
