Eddie Murphy is ready to create Christmas magic.
On Thursday, Prime Video released the first teaser trailer. Sugar Cane Roadstarring Murphy, 62, plays a Christmas-loving dad named Chris who is determined to win his neighborhood home decorating contest.
“It’s safe to say you’ve never seen a holiday movie like this before,” director Reginald Hudlin recently told PEOPLE. “We get all the holiday vibes, along with jump scares, car chases and kung-fu fights.”
According to the synopsis, Murphy’s character Chris is “on a mission to win his neighborhood’s annual Christmas house decorating contest.”
He makes a deal with a “naughty elf” named Pepper (Jillian Bell) when she casts a “magic spell that brings the 12 Days of Christmas to life and wreaks havoc on the entire town” to increase his chances of winning the contest.

In the synopsis, Chris must work with his wife Carol (Tracee Ellis Ross) and their three children to “break Pepper’s spell, fighting insidious magical characters” to save Christmas.
Sugar Cane Road Also starring Thaddeus J. Mixson, Ken Marino, Nick Offerman, Robin Thede, Chris Redd, Genneya Walton, Madison Thomas, DC Young Fly, Riki Lindhome, Anjelah Johnson-Reyes, Lombardo Boyar, Danielle Pinnock and Timothy Simons.
“I can’t wait for the world to see Sugar Cane Road“I’ve wanted to make a Christmas movie my whole life, but I wanted to do something new and surprising,” Hudlin previously said in a statement.
The director added that Murphy “and this hilarious cast really bring the fun.”
“It’s super Christmassy and will totally blow you away,” he said.
