Dick Van Dyke is trying something new.
The 97-year-old legendary actor will appear as a guest actor in the new episode of the series. Days of Our Livesaccording to this Accesswill celebrate her debut in a soap opera.
Van Dyke, who recently competed in season 9 Masked Singer – he told the outlet that he and show star Drake Hogestyn went to the same gym and took matters into his own hands to see a role on the show.
‘Don’t you have a piece for the elderly? I said, ‘Give it to me. And he took me seriously and gave me a part!” Van Dyke said Access.

What the star is set to play Access He has been described as a “mysterious man with amnesia”. Reacting to the role, Van Dyke said, “I’ve played old men before, but comedy is old men. [This is the] I played my 97-year-old self for the first time.”
To prepare for your role, Mary Poppins The actor said he watches some soap operas to capture the perfect presentation – especially for those intense moments that require some dramatic flair.
“Some people have been doing this for 20 years,” Van Dyke said. “That’s all the homework I can do, watch someone and see how they do it. The other thing is you have to say ‘hah ha’, the music has sharpness and we said something exciting.”
Van Dyke’s longtime friend and All My Children alum Carol Burnett even gave Van Dyke some advice in a video note: “Make sure you know all your lines, because they’re not getting it again.”

Earlier this year, Van Dyke chatted with PEOPLE about how he couldn’t bear to watch himself on TV and typically avoided reruns of hit series like: The Dick Van Dyke Show And The New Dick Van Dyke Show.
“When we do this, [there] There were three commercials in half an hour. Now there are about six ads in half an hour. So our old show was torn to pieces,” she explained. “I can’t stand looking at it.”
Van Dyke’s wife, Arlene Silver, said she would “talk about herself as someone else” when her husband caught her on TV.
“He’s watching The Dick Van Dyke ShowSilva, whom Van Dyke married in 2012, will talk about it like ‘Look at what he’s doing’.
