Inspection embargo not yet lifted Flash, but positive responses to DC’s summer blockbuster are already gaining traction online. CinemaCon attendees after seeing an early screening of the film On Tuesday, many began tweeting enthusiastic criticism on social media; which has angered some fans for not mentioning lead actress Ezra Miller’s violent outbursts over the past few years.
In 2020, Miller allegedly strangled a woman in an Icelandic bar. Then, in 2022, the actor experienced a series of incidents in Hawaii where he was arrested for disorderly conduct and second-degree assault. Miller was also accused of threatening a 12-year-old boy and his mother for allegedly “misbehaving” the boy.
Warner Bros. As DC and DC struggled to determine how to release their completed films, Miller issued an apologetic statement: “I’ve recently gone through a period of intense crisis, now I understand that I have complex mental health issues, and Miller told The Daily Beast that they are embarking on ongoing treatment. “I want to apologize to anyone I’ve worried and upset with my past behavior. I’m determined to do the work necessary to get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my life.”
This was in August 2022. Now, as the film prepares for release, Miller has come back into the limelight – and so have many of the controversies between them. However, they had nothing but great words to say about the studio and DC executives. Flash; DC Studios’ new co-CEO, James Gunn, called it “damn awesome”.
People like Gunn are, of course, praising them. Flash because they are trying to sell a movie. But now, a handful of critics at CinemaCon shared similar views.
“I know Ezra Miller made a lot of mistakes, but they’re so good in this movie,” Collider editor-in-chief Steven Weintraub said on Twitter. “Popular [Michael] Keaton, action, humor and emotion. Andy Muschietti has created something special. Thumbs up.”
Scott Menzel of We Live Entertainment said, “Ezra Miller is the heart and soul of the movie. Ezra’s performance carries the full weight of the story. It’s a double performance and truly showcases Ezra’s incredible talent as an actor.”
However, some social media users Flashespecially all the excuses made on behalf of Miller.
“A colleague once asked me if Warner Bros. would have trouble with the Ezra Miller redemption round for The Flash, and I said no because there are too many people in our space who would willingly help with the propaganda for a poster quote and gift bag.” by Kayleigh Donaldson shared.
As seen in the tweets below, more and more people fought back against the praise, especially for Miller.
While this is hardly reducible to “rhetoric,” we can expect to hear much more discussion about Miller, given the arrests and allegations against Miller. Flash as more reviews arrive later this year.
