Caitlyn Jenner pays homage to her late mother Esther Jenner (née McGuire).
On Friday, the 73-year-old Olympic gold medalist shared a photo of her speech at Esther’s funeral on Instagram. Esther died on April 20 at the age of 96.
“I spoke at my mother’s memorial service yesterday. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do,” Caitlyn captioned the post. “I miss him so much every day. He is loved, missed and in a better place.”
In the comment section, Jenner’s son Brandon Jenner remembered his grandmother as a “wonderful woman”.
“I’m so happy to say one last goodbye on the phone,” she wrote. “I will remember many moments, but one of my favorite moments will be when he tells me, ‘It’s the filters that will kill you, not the cigarettes,’ through the smoke of his house.”
Brandon, 41, said: “He’s been rolling on his own all his life, until he’s 96. Could he be after something? See you on the other side, grandma. ❤️”
Caitlyn’s daughter Kylie Jenner also responded with a series of white heart emojis.
Last month, Caitlyn announced Esther’s death in a candid Instagram post.
“My heart is broken to announce that my mother passed away peacefully yesterday morning,” she wrote next to several photos of her mother over the years. “Losing a mother is unique in the sense that she is the only person who has ever loved me in my life.”
Caitlyn continued, “I’m going to miss her terribly. She’s only a few weeks into her 97th birthday and has lived a full life. I love you mom.”
Struggling with health issues in later years, Esther publicly expressed her support for Caitlyn after she transitioned in 2015.
“It takes a lot of courage to do what he’s doing,” he told PEOPLE in June 2016. [Caitlyn]All I wanted to do was give him a big hug.”
“I love him,” she added at the time. “And he’s happy. That’s what matters.”

The mother-daughter duo remained close over the years. Esther called the former athlete her 94th birthday in May 2020. At the meeting, Caitlyn sang “Happy Birthday” to the head of the Jenner family and presented him with a piece of cake with a candle on top.
“Hooray! 94 years old!” Caitlyn said it in an Instagram video at the time.
