Daily ShowJordan Klepper of ‘s first week said he didn’t plan on spending every night behind Trevor Noah’s abandoned desk talking about gun control – “but this is America and it gives me no other choice.”
In the past week alone, there have been three widely publicized shootings in the “wrong place”, in which an unsuspecting person (two teenagers and one just 20 years old in this case) knocked on the wrong door and came into the building. wrong address, or attempting to get into the wrong car, and they almost paid for these innocent mistakes with their lives. This prompted Klepper to ask if “anyone else watching these stories feels like they’re losing their goddamn mind.”
“You may call me old-fashioned,” Klepper continued, “but what happened to asking a person one question? Confused about why a stranger is in your house? Before you open fire, open your mouth and ask them, “Can I help you?” It is not that difficult.”
“I know you have Second Amendment Rights, America. But you also have First Amendment Rights. Use them!”
And although these shootings were in the news due to the large number of incidents that occurred within a week—all of them young people—Klepper noted that they occurred quite frequently. We just don’t hear much about them. “Because America is a country where so many people take up arms, fear, and eventually use deadly force every day because Google Maps isn’t updated. I mean, what does it say when the most dangerous job in America is being Jehovah’s Witnesses?
Klepper, almost in his own right judgment, eventually had to let gun violence in America get so bad that we might actually need more people like Patricia and Mark McCloskey; In honor of George Floyd.
Because while absolutely deflecting the threat of violence, Klepper said, “they didn’t shoot anybody. And I never thought I’d say this, but: Please America. Be more like these gun freaks!”
