Wherever Clarence Thomas goes, controversy seems to follow. And the Supreme Court Justice’s latest scandal has it all around the world – all with money from a billionaire GOP mega-donor.
Roy Wood Jr. while doing his best to bring the story to life while hosting guests Daily Show On Thursday night, the game was broken when he said “Judge of the Supreme Court” and “major corruption scandal” in the same sentence.
According to a new ProPublica story, “For over 20 years, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has been treated to luxury vacations by billionaire Republican fundraiser Harlan Crow.” Crow, a real estate developer, told ProPublica that he and his wife “[H]I never tried to influence Judge Thomas in any legal or political matter.
An excuse that Wood said completely believes.
Oh yes yes. Yes, yes, of course,” said Wood. “I’m sure this billionaire Republican didn’t want to impress anyone… He just wanted to go on vacation with Clarence Thomas. Because we all know that Clarence Thomas is a complete sack of fun. Be honest: who wouldn’t want to dock on Miami Beach with their old CT?”
Over the past 20 years, Crow has spent millions of dollars helping Thomas and his wife, Ginny, travel the world in style by hitchhiking in their private jet and vacationing on their superyacht. While this was all bad news for Thomas—the calls for an investigation are growing by the minute—Wood seemed more and more annoyed by Crow’s decision to woo Thomas in particular.
“If you’re going to get a Supreme Court Justice, why spend all that money on luxury yachts and planes? Clarence Thomas? You could have bought Brett Kavanaugh for a bottle of Jäger and a Southwest boarding pass. This is a better deal.”
Meanwhile, the Senate Judiciary Committee promised to “take action” in response to the ProPublica report.
