Ben Affleck often mocks his depressing facial expressions in public, arguing that “God made him that way”.
The “Slang” star, whose despondent demeanor has become a popular meme source, hits “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Tuesday said the assumption that he wasn’t happy was just “a common misconception”.
“Listen, I have a very unhappy-looking, resting face,” 50-year-old Affleck joked.
“This pleases me,” the “Good Will Hunting” actor said as his face took on a blank expression.
“This amuses me,” he added, making a similar, serious-looking gesture. “This is how God created me. You don’t need to punish me for that.”
Affleck’s joke comes after social media users were outraged at how “miserable” he looked at the 2023 Grammy Awards on February 5.
The “Justice League” star, who married Jennifer Lopez in July 2022, didn’t seem too thrilled when the cameras cut what seemed like an intense conversation between him and his wife during a Trevor Noah skit at the awards ceremony.
“No matter how bad your day is, I promise you’re not as miserable as Ben Affleck at the Grammy Awards right now,” tweeted one after 53-year-old Lopez approached a sullen Affleck during the event.

Later, a body language expert told Page Six that the conversation between Affleck and Lopez was “reproaching.”
But Affleck later cleared the air about what really happened that night, and told Vanity Fair in an interview published March 16 that he was just joking with his wife.
He remembered when he realized that the camera crew had “framed” them in the shoot, saying to Lopez, “As soon as it starts to boil, I’ll walk away from you and leave you with Trevor.”
“He says, ‘You better not go,'” Affleck explained, adding, “It’s a husband and wife thing. I mean, some of it is. ‘Well, who’s this number?’ I’m like.”
Lopez, meanwhile, had previously said via Instagram that they were having the “best time” despite the assumption that her husband wasn’t happy during the Grammy awards.
The “Marry Me” actress also poked her own mockery of her husband’s solemn appearance on Twitter on February 9. She shared a clip showing her classic blank expression in a trailer for Affleck’s movie “Air” that reads “MY HUSBAND’S HAPPY FACE”. across the screen.
