Thierry Mugler’s tailoring spirit came to life at the Brooklyn Museum Tuesday for the opening of the designer’s retrospective. The city’s nightlife and underground fashion habits channeled its extravagant style. Many wore fictitious outfits from old Mugs or their own creations.

Also Tuesday, the Air Mail newsletter, launched by Graydon Carter, celebrated the Downtown Set, featuring 50 young stage producers, with a Celine-sponsored party of french fries and martinis at the Odeon. Pioneer Works, an arts and science incubator in Brooklyn’s Red Hook, celebrated its 10th anniversary on November 11 with a festive dinner and after-party; the dress code was a psychedelic dream. And the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery showcased portraits of this year’s gala awards, including Serena and Venus Williams, Ava DuVernay and Anthony S. Fauci. One guest carried a bag that read “Totally Vaxxed.”
