Taron Egerton is stepping away from social media.
On Thursday, the 33-year-old actor announced in a lengthy Instagram post that he was taking a social media hiatus because he felt “sucked away”.
“I’m not sure why I made a big statement about it; I just think it’s hard to get out of a somewhat addictive cycle, and that’s my commitment to myself.” Rocket Man The star wrote down her decision to take a break.
Explaining how social media has impacted her ability to exist, her relationships with loved ones, and her job, she continued: “I put myself in a situation where I spend a lot of time scrolling and I actually feel the ability to sit. and being there, reading books, watching movies, and even seeking the company of people I love wears off as a result.
“I feel a little distant from myself. And regarding work, I know I can do more and IG [Instagram] one of the few obstacles to getting me there.
She captioned the post, “Thanks to everyone for always saying such nice things; I greatly appreciate it, but I need to not read strangers’ thoughts for a while; I’m not sure these things are too good for any of us. ❤️.”
The British actor also captioned that he will stay away from social media for the rest of 2023. “Happy holidays everyone,” he wrote. “And if you’re a bit like me f- – – – -g don’t forget to leave your phone in the other room a little more often. 🙄Loves, Tx ❤️.”
Before saying goodbye to Instagram for the foreseeable future, Egerton shared a series of videos and photos from England’s Glastonbury Festival on his Instagram story Wednesday. A video featured the actor accompanying John’s song “Tiny Dancer” at the festival, along with a caption encouraging fans to download the new limited edition version of the singer’s biggest hit album, “Diamonds.”
“There are two reasons why you’re doing this; first, you have a chance to relive some of the absolute magic we all did last night, and it will sound like a better site than we did here,” he wrote, adding: John had a chance to hit #1 in the UK and “Honestly, who do you think deserves this more,” the caption ended.
The actress also shared a repost of her Instagram Story, which shows a photo of Gemma Chan relaxing in Glastonbury with her and British actors Dominic Cooper, Lily James and Billie Piper, along with a photo of her with friends at the famous festival.
Egerton had previously praised Elton John for his Sunday headline.
“I had no idea Glastonbury was a competition but congratulations on winning @eltonjohn. There really are no words to describe how good this was. Rocketman did it again. ❤️ 🚀,” Egerton wrote on Sunday, wearing a gold suit on stage. next to a photo of the singer wearing it.

Egerton isn’t the only famous face to talk about taking a social media break lately. Earlier this month, Bad Bunny told PEOPLE that he often takes months off from social media platforms.
“I’ve done this a few times and when I came back to social media I was like, ‘Why did I come back?’ The 29-year-old Puerto Rican rapper said, “The truth is, every time I turn my phone off for as long as a week – and there have been occasions when I’ve managed to stay off for a month – that’s when I feel my best.”
“I’m even breathing better,” he added. “But at the end of the day, getting on social media, even for a minute, is inevitable.”
