Convicted R&B artist Tory Lanez and rapper DaBaby attempted to ambush Megan Thee Stallion during their set at the 2021 Rolling Loud music festival, according to court documents viewed by The Daily Beast.
The State of California on Tuesday presented a memorandum of punishment for Lanez, who was convicted last December for shooting Megan in the foot during an argument on July 12, 2020. Prosecutors are demanding that the “Luv” singer serve 13 years in prison. A “false information campaign” targeting the 28-year-old and other antics leading up to the trial.
The 12-page memo, first reported by Meghan Cuniff, highlights an event in particular on July 25, 2021, when Lanez arrived in Miami at the Rolling Loud hip-hop festival where Megan performed. Lanez made headlines for appearing on DaBaby’s set that weekend. DaBaby also took heat from Megan’s supporters, given that the two had previously collaborated on multiple songs and were supposedly friends.
Now it’s revealed that Lanez and DaBaby have additional plans to surprise Megan on set.
The memorandum reads, “During the victim’s performance, the accused passed the security check and entered the green room.” “These areas were within 100 meters of the scene where the victim was performing, in violation of the containment order.”
The Doctor continues, “It was also brought to the attention of the accused and the victim that they tried to run onto the stage during DaBaby’s performance. The victim was in no way aware of the defendant’s presence at the venue where he was going to perform and had not consented to it.”
Prosecutors say Megan was “incredibly frightened” when she learned that Lanez had violated her protection order. They cite this example as further attempts to “re-traumatize” the Grammy winner, along with the misinformation she spread online and mocking Megan in her music recordings.
“The defendant showed no remorse, which raises the question of whether the apologies he made in his text message to the victim and his call for imprisonment were genuine,” the documents said.
DaBaby also publicly attacked Megan during her shooting ordeal. In June 2021, the North Caroline rapper retweeted a post mocking the “Savage” singer about an incident that he blames for a glitch. He also claimed that he slept with Megan on the 2022 track “Boogeyman”. “You’re playing with me about this being childish/ I was fucking Megan Thee Stallion the day before Tory Lanez said he shot her,” he rapped. Megan has since distanced herself publicly from the musician.
In March, Lanez’s lawyers petitioned for a new trial, arguing that the evidence in the case had been unfairly admitted. A Los Angeles Superior Court judge rejected the motion last month. Lanez will be sentenced on June 13.
