Ryan Gosling applauds trolls who have a problem with being cast as Ken in the upcoming “Barbie” movie because he’s “old”.
“If people don’t want to play with my Ken, I’d say there are other Kens to play,” the 42-year-old told GQ in a new interview this week.
Gosling said he thought the rhetoric was “funny” given that people didn’t think about Ken before he was cast.
“But suddenly, ‘No, we’ve been caring for Ken this whole time,'” she added. “No, you didn’t. You never did. You never cared. Barbie never fucked Ken. That’s the point.
The “Notebook” star said, “If you really cared about Ken, you would know that no one cares about Ken. This exposes your hypocrisy. So his story must be told.”
Although Gosling believed that no one cared about Ken, he jokingly admitted that he felt like the “representative” of the fictional character.
“I’m interested in this man now. I’m like his representative,” she teased.
After the trailer for the Greta Gerwig-directed film hit social media in April, several Gen Z fans expressed concern about Gosling being cast because of his age.
“[R]Yan Gosling Ken is too old to play, his wrinkles are distracting me from the experience, sorry” a fan tweeted.

“I love Ryan Gosling but idk [I don’t know] why does it look a little too old and dry? I’m not sure if it’s her hair or her tan, but she needed some moisturizer.” another complained.
“Ryan Gosling is too ugly and too old to play Ken, they should have chosen Henry Cavill or Chris Evans Bye.” wrote a third hate.
However, several other fans defended Gosling’s take on the role, saying Ken is technically 62 years old.
“Ken is 62. @RyanGosling is only 42. So let’s not talk about who’s too old to play whom.” a supporter tweetedduring added another“For the record, I love Ryan Gosling as Ken. No one cared about Ken, and now suddenly everyone cares if it’s a 40-year-old actor playing Ken?
Starring Margot Robbie, Issa Rae, Simu Liu, Will Ferrell, America Ferrera and Scott Evans, “Barbie” hits theaters July 21.
