Angela Bassett commemorates Tina Turner’s legacy.

Turner paid tribute to Bassett a month ago. TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2023 list praised the actress as “excellent” for playing her in the then-Oscar-nominated film.
“Angela, when we first met you didn’t look like me, you didn’t have a voice and you didn’t move – this happened after you worked hard to make it happen,” Turner wrote. “But even then, I could see that the young woman standing before me was strong, determined, and had big, big dreams like me.”

Turner said that Bassett “never imitated me. Instead, you reached deep into your soul, found your inner Tina and showed her to the world.”
“You honor all the women you’ve played with as you honor me. And you’re still amazing,” she added.

“It was funny,” the actress recalled, “because everyone kept knocking on the door, wanting to know… wanting to be very helpful: ‘Do you need anything? Something to drink? Something to comb?’ He said, “No, no, no. We’re good. It was like, ‘Leave us alone.’ And she did my makeup and hair in a quarter of the time my hairstylist did. And it was just as gorgeous.”
