Tom Arnold’s health scare helped him prioritize his life as a father.

“I think you get over things as you get older. And that was a great wake-up call for me,” said Arnold, 64. “And hit the wood. I’m turning 65 next year, so I’m going to get Social Security. And the day I turn 65, I stop paying child support. There are so many wonderful things about getting old.”
Regarding his general health, Arnold said, “Oh, I’ve changed drastically. I have kids – my kids Jax and Quinn are here. They’re 10 and 7 years old. And I realized, I better get in shape. I better do that.”
Arnold said he knew he had to put in more effort as he was an older dad.
“I mean, you have to strive every day to be the best day you’ve had with those kids. The money in the bank – the memories, the things we’ve done together. And I’m so lucky. I’m lucky to be a father.” . I am very lucky to be alive.
The Iowa native also noted: FUBARArnold Schwarzenegger, who made his television debut in the Netflix series, has a similar health history. “You know, Arnold had some. He’s also a survivor.”
Schwarzenegger, 75, who also attended the ceremony on Monday, is one of his son’s idols. Arnold told PEOPLE last month that “there is a poster of Arnold Schwarzenegger” in his son’s bedroom.

Arnold, who has lost 75 pounds, details his own inspiring story with PEOPLE. She said she started her weight-loss journey so far—with the help of her coach Charles D’Angelo, who offered to help her four years ago when they first met.
He’s previously helped PEOPLE understand how D’Angelo understands that if he wants a future, he must put himself first, and much of his work has focused on changing the comedian’s mindset.
“We all know what to do, but doing it to yourself might be a different story,” Arnold said. “It’s very important to have someone in your corner who supports you but also invites and challenges you. Charles was that way to me.”
Arnold said, “I’m still thinking, what if today is the last day? Did I do it right in front of my kids?”
Then, in April, Arnold shared: I don’t just have to try to set the best example, I also need to live as long as I can.”
