barry working for a pitch-dark and potentially deadly series finale. But the show still features in its penultimate episode, the comedy that has helped soften the darkness since Season 1. In fact, Episode 7 of the last season is particularly funny, largely because of the deadly idiots that surround the world. Barry (Bill Hader) himself.
Chief among these curiously funny serial killers is Monroe Fuches, played by longtime character actor Stephen Root. After the eight-year time jump at the end of Episode 4 of the series, we’re starting to wonder about the fate of Fuches, who was finally revealed in episode six last week. The ex-hitman survived the hellish eight-year sentence that Barry managed to escape, and the hitman left his friend and longtime mentor in the dust. And when he gets out of jail, we learn that Fuches is no longer Fuches. Now, that’s Raven.
Although we might see him as the punching bag of fellow inmates, Fuches returns to the show completely reborn, sociopathically calm and heavily tattooed. Kuzgun, unlike his apprentice, has a loyal team of servants who listen to him and never abandon him. Kuzgun even has a new, perpetually silent girlfriend whose daughter is his spokesperson.
It’s a seemingly hilarious move that the loser Fuches is a self-created mob boss. But Root tells The Daily Beast’s Obsessed that this transformation fits the character perfectly at the moment: a father figure supposedly despised by his son Barry and trying to fill the void.
“You realize you’ve known Barry this season for a lot longer than audiences know,” Root says, referring to a brief flashback to the two’s first encounter in Episode 4. “She’s known him since he played soldier in the sand as a seven-year-old boy. “It’s that love and family intimacy that drives him to always be there for Barry. [But] He has a flaw because he has a revenge button that can’t be stopped – but his first love for Barry is always the underlying current of his life. [his actions]”
This is why Fuches desires to start a new family for himself as soon as he gets out of prison. Not just stepping back into the free world surrounded by loyal followers; Speaking to this soft side is that he also hired a girlfriend to accompany him.
“When Fuches turns into Raven, the first thing he does is start a family,” Root says. “He catches the woman, [who’s a barista at a coffee shop]And that woman has a daughter and boom, she has a family. He has something he never had.”
This soft side comes out even more hilariously in Episode 7, which aired on Sunday. After Barry disappeared, Fuches found new children to parent and outmaneuvered anyone who pissed him off. In this case, it’s NoHo Hank (Anthony Carrigan), so Fuches sent the loot to Hank’s office as a scare tactic after his honorary sons had members of Hank’s Chechen mob gang beheaded. (“These are heads,” Hank says with a determined sigh as he unpacks the bloodstained boxes on his desk.)
Yes, it’s sadism at its best (as long as it’s “the best”), but it’s also followed by what Root calls “one of the funniest scenes in the show.”
After Hank opened the head boxes, we moved on to Raven, aka Fuches, sitting on a couch surrounded by his gang; Across the coffee table is his new girlfriend and daughter. It turns out that the crew tortured and killed Hank’s men outside of Fuches’ flashy new pad, much to the annoyance of Fuches’ new “family.”
“In the beginning, we had [Fuches’ girlfriend] While Root was talking to me about what just happened outside the house; instead it remains completely silent. It was much funnier that he didn’t say anything. Then her daughter speaks and says, ‘Yes, when you cut off their heads, we feel uncomfortable’.
Fuches wants to be a good boyfriend and father – he doesn’t want to stress anyone over his occasional murder sessions. This leads to an argument between the perpetrators, Fuches, and his sons about how they can make the situation more favorable to women. Maybe Raven and her crew could take them out for a “nice meal” so they wouldn’t be home while they brutally murdered people? Or can they get noise canceling headphones?
Root says the best suggestion surprised everyone: “[Watching] Fast and furious– it was purely improvised by the guys behind me. On set, Root frowned when one of the men suggested that women watch one of the particularly loud movies. Fast and furious Movies have the volume turned all the way up to distract their attention from the screams of their enemies. What’s even funnier is that no one agrees on which entry is the best in the long-running series.
“They describe the fact that ‘No, he wasn’t in it’. Fast and Furious 2was in 3and this and that – that’s all, ”says Root. “The joy of this show is that you can find something like this that isn’t on the page, but is within the realm of the show.”
Fuches’ girlfriend and daughter don’t seem to agree at all. Fast and furious marathon idea. But maybe they won’t have a chance to test anyway – there’s just one more episode. barryand this kiss to Hank is definitely not going to end well for Fuches. I hope women can make money from this fine dining offer no matter what.
barry‘ will air next Sunday, May 27 ET.
