If you have a favorite football team, you may want to know how to watch the NFL Draft to see which players are drafted and which are traded.
The National Football League Draft—also known as the NFL Draft or the Player Selection Meeting—is an annual event that served as the NFL’s main source of player recruitment. The draft is seven rounds over the course of three days, which each of the 32 NFL teams receiving an automatic pick in each round. Each team is given a position in reverse order relative to their record in the previous year, which means that the last place team is positioned first while the team that won the Super Bowl is last. The first NFL draft was held in 1936, and since then, millions of people watch the event on TV each year.
In an interview with ESPN in 2018, an anonymous NFL executive explained what the NFL Draft is like behind the scenes for the players. “Usually it’s the GM, the head coach, the coordinator, position coach, scouting director, area scout, assistant GM and personnel director,” the executive said. Then there might be a cap guy. We also had a psychologist, who didn’t ask questions, just listened and gave a report on every guy. And there’s people in and out. It’s a really crowded room.” The executive continued, “You have snacks and water. Most teams give the player a gift like backpacks, hats, sweatshirts, when they leave. If you were in the hotel lobby you’d see these guys with loads of stuff carrying around. One or two teams started doing it 10 or 12 years ago. Then everyone started doing it so they don’t look bad.”
