The MTV Movie & TV Awards look a little different this year.
The fan-voted awards show aired Sunday night in a pre-scheduled live format after host Drew Barrymore withdrew from the concert on Thursday in solidarity with the ongoing Hollywood writers’ strike. He agreed to return to host the show in 2024.
“Everything we celebrate and honor about movies and television, [writers’] “And I choose to wait until a resolution is reached, but I’ll be watching from home and I hope you’ll join me,” Barrymore, 48, said in a statement.
She added that next year “MTV can truly celebrate everything it has created, this show is a truly inclusive show that allows fans to choose who the awards go to.”
When entering the ceremony, Top Gun: Maverick Leading in television with the most nominations and scripts for films, stranger things And what’s left of us both led with six gold popcorn nominations.
The show is currently airing on MTV from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. ET and airs simultaneously on BET, BETHer, Comedy Central, CMT, Logo, MTV2, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network, Pop, TV Land and VH1.
