As you probably know by now, this year’s Met Gala was a tense celebration for German fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld, who passed away in 2019. pearl cavalry, black and white suits, velvet bow ties, and the Choupette costume. (In particular, there was also a cockroach.)
As with any leading celebrity event, but especially at any fashion-centric event, the night was also a parade of nepo babies trying to make their mark—some more desperate than others.
Simplicity, elegance, lace, which is the relatively basic task of the night! Given that, it’s been hard for celebs to fail hilariously as many have done on the camp grade of 2019 and in the years that followed. Most of the night’s looks ranged from breathtaking (Gisele Bundchen, Michaela Coel, Jenna Ortega) to perfectly beautiful (Dua Lipa, Lizzo, Margot Robbie). However, for some of the event’s teen models, influencers, and lesser-known celebrities, it was hard for the night to really stand out between Naomi Campbells and Anne Hathaways.
Below, we’ll decide which nepo babies benefit the most from their $50,000 ticket and which ones should probably stay at home.
Northwest
The most talked about nepo doll of the night didn’t even walk on the carpet. North West was spotted outside the gala with mom Kim Kardashian wearing a Chanel tweed jacket and jeans. The Kardashians, especially Kim and Kylie Jenner, are known for dragging kids’ treasures into events. But something about West’s claim that he was still standing outside the event while his mother was walking on the carpet without him created a huge stir online.
In light of West’s recent virality on TikTok, people online blame Kim uses her eldest daughter as a tool to stay relevant, especially post-Kanye. And I have to say to this: Have you met the Kardashians? The fact that Kim didn’t force her kid to walk the carpet was honestly a sign of restraint!
Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz
The idea that Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz are a celebrity couple we should be dealing with remains a mystery, at least to me. I didn’t even care about the rumors (which I now suspect are fully settled) that Peltz had a fight with Beckham’s mother, Victoria Beckham, before their wedding. Now, the newlyweds are apparently trying to establish themselves as a hot and stylish couple.
Unfortunately, there’s nothing about these pretty well-dressed people that will turn anyone’s head. And that’s mainly because the general public doesn’t know anything about them, even after so many. demand Youtube videos. How excited should I be to see Beckham in a Valentino suit? What should I feel when I look into Peltz’s dead eyes?
Gigi Hadid
Bella Hadid was kind enough to let her less conspicuous older sister leave this year’s Met Gala to her. The 28-year-old wore a sheer bodice Valentino dress, which gave the girl next door a refreshing air. The night was also an opportunity to reignite rumors that she and her alleged ex, Leonardo DiCaprio, were reunited when they arrived moments after the party. While no one on social media seems to care about this couple, I appreciate the level of mystery.
Kylie and Kendal Jenner
It feels like 2015 again, as the Jenner brothers make the most headlines of any in their family. One is said to be dating Bad Bunny, the highlight of the night with his white floral tail and backless tuxedo, while the other is said to be flirting with Timothée Chalamet. At the event, both brothers reportedly did not have the man on their arm. But they probably should have done to get away from those looks!
Kendall’s swimsuit-inspired outfit paired with platform boots felt like a sketchy punk attempt. And Kylie’s red-and-blue ensemble was the least striking of her recent Jean Paul Gaultier looks. Posing with her older sister Kim, who apparently threw a bunch of pearls over a Skims waist sneaker, the typical trendy family looked like a carnival crew.
paris hilton
As much as I despise Paris Hilton’s current redemption curve, amid the Kardashians’ cultural decline, her first-ever Met Gala appearance at least offered an interesting narrative. He also has a mother, Kathy Hilton. give updates At the time of arrival in Vogue’s comments on Instagram Live. So that was fun!
Maya Hawke
Maya Hawke impresses me as the type of nepo baby who’s too cool to attend a Met Gala. Again, stranger things The star has channeled her famous mother, Uma Thurman, in more ways than one. Bringing to mind the role of her mother’s most famous Quentin Tarantino, a bride opted for a Prada look. She also wore a purse inspired by the Prada bag her mother brought to the 1995 Oscars. Honestly, if you’re a nepo baby, your #1 priority should be to remind me of your cool mom.
respectable words
Congratulations to Kristen Stewart for finally finding a Chanel look that fits her androgynous, punk vibe. (Extra points for cool, IDGAF poses.) Elle Fanning also added character to an otherwise pristine event by appearing like a bride lost in the woods. The less impressive nepo dolls were Lila Moss, who was apparently debuted at last year’s event by her mother, Kate Moss. (It’s unclear what we should think of the 20-year-old model, except that she looks so much like her mother.) Allison Williams also showed up in a gorgeous Patou dress that wasn’t the pale beauty’s flattering color. Regardless, Williams-aissance continues furiously!
