The concept of artificial intelligence writing movies and TV shows has been at the forefront of many discussions over the past few weeks, and the latest studio rom-com love again seems to follow this trend.
There was an intense reaction when the great Marvel actor Joe Russo claimed that artificial intelligence could be a helpful tool in screenwriting. One of the current issues that studios and writers are negotiating with in the ongoing WGA strike is the concept of artificial intelligence replacing the work of human writers. Seems like love again It is perfectly timed to prove that AI should not, cannot and will never replace living, breathing writers.
Not like that love again There is such a great script that ChatGPT will never copy it. In fact, we’re looking at the opposite situation here: love again It is such an unattractive rom-com that the horror of the film can only be attributed to human error. No AI would call Céline Dion’s song “My Heart Will Go On” as “My Heart”. Still Continuing” instead. ChatGPT would get this header right, whereas love again He brutally misnames the singer’s hit, while also abusing his talent.
The concept of the movie is actually quite captivating. Adapted by writer-director James C. Strouse love again from the german movie SMS for Dich. When it started, it’s been two years since Mira’s (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) beloved boyfriend John (Arinzé Tick) died, and Mira still hasn’t forgotten him. Understandable! He seeks advice from the chef (not his sister or parents) of his favorite burger restaurant and advises him to make a glass of wine for Rob every night and tell him about his day. Mira is surprised by this situation. Instead she prefers to send long-winded texts to her old phone number.
On the other side of New York City, Rob (Sam Heughan) is in the throes of a bad breakup. “Love is not real!” He tells his cynicism to anyone who will listen, including Céline Dion, whom he was tasked with profiling. New York Times-esque job. (Note: Rob hates Dion, but his female coworkers love him. So why? HE tasked with protecting what his boss calls the “Céline assassination”? As a journalist who loves Céline Dion, I am horrified!)
Unrelated to his new job, Rob’s boss asks him to use a work phone now. Almost instantly, Rob starts getting weird, infatuated texts from an unknown number; Messages like “I miss sleeping next to your naked body” and “I’m going on a date tonight but I still haven’t forgotten you”. ” Although Rob’s co-worker wisely suggests that he delete the text they think is phishing, Rob does not.
Instead, he falls in love with the eponymous author, who of course is Mira. Rob is about the emotions he expresses through the text; Although he did not witness the death of his lover, Rob’s ex effectively left him at the altar. They have collective traumas. When the mysterious sender texts Rob that he’s going on a date at a hipster bar in Brooklyn, Rob rushes to the scene to see if he can finally talk to her. Sadly though Mira isn’t sure about her date – a cute look from real-life husband Nick Jonas, who plays Chopra Jonas’ gym brother Joel – she chooses to go home with him and leaves Rob in the first place.
Thus begins the movie’s quest for cat and mouse. However love again I can’t decide if the chase takes up all the runtime (a la You’ve got mail) or just the first act so Mira and Rob can build their chemistry. Instead, it lasts for an hour or so, an awkward choice that adds nothing to the couple’s tension. Rob finally confronts Mira at the opera, but doesn’t tell him that he has received the messages sent to John’s phone. Instead, he calls for more “unfortunate lovers” by pretending to know Mira only because they were meant to be together all the time. Thus, their personally boring relationship begins. There isn’t enough time for the audience to develop any bonds that they can support, but there’s also almost too much time because every speech feels too long and awkward.
Céline Dion is perhaps her only fascinating aspect. love again. Still, its recurring presence is just as contrived as the rest. When Rob struggles at any point in his relationship with Mira – when he admits to being “John” or persuades him to forget the real John – he turns to Dion for help. She offers some advice from her relationship with the late René Angélil and explains the lyrics to Rob, who still doubts love. While it’s certainly nice to see her face and hear so many of her tunes throughout the movie, the aimlessness of her character ultimately wastes her talent.
While the plot is stale and the performances mediocre at best, love again Still, it might be worth watching. It’s a bubbly, clumsy mess of weird text like Céline Dion and Nick Jonas doing push-ups in the bathroom. The tone ranges from melodramatic to playful, as Jonas misinterprets “maybe we should take things slower” to mean “making love heavily.” These aspects do not love again It’s a satisfying romantic comedy, but something so silly and pretentious (and also full of pretty faces) is a bit of a delight to watch on the big screen.
love again full of human blunders – and all perfect mistakes for the movie to make. It’s our right to watch such scary romantic comedies. Although there are points love again It almost bored me to sleep, I could never really close my eyes knowing that the next weird text could be sent at any moment or appear with a cheesy quote from Céline Dion about love. If we hand over formulaic stories like romantic comedies to AI, they’ll never be as infuriating as they used to be. love again. This is a bigger sin than the mistakes made throughout Rob and Mira’s story.
