Fashion’s biggest night never disappoints.
As always, the Met Gala 2023, coinciding with the opening of the Costume Institute’s new exhibition “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” celebrating the life and work of the late design legend, invited celebrity guests to dress “in honor”. Karl” and many (if not all) understood the assignment.
The vast majority of guests chose black and white looks, Lagerfeld’s preferred color palette, and there were lots of tweed, pearls, chains, and camellias—all style signatures for the Chanel house the German icon designed for her from 1983. death in 2019.
And while some of the night’s standout looks were plucked straight from the Chanel archives, others simply paid homage to looks Lagerfeld had devised over the years.

Michaela Coel
Made in sheer tulle, encrusted with gold crystals and embellished with unique beads inspired by Lagerfeld’s costume jewelry creations, the gala co-president’s second-skin Schiaparelli Haute Couture dress was a true work of art.
Naomi Campbell
The supermodel’s pink flowing silk dress with silver sequins on it dates back to Chanel’s spring/summer 2010 haute couture collection and fits her like a dream.
Rihanna
The Met Gala isn’t over until Bad Gal hits the carpet – and while she came fashionably late as usual, Rihanna was well worth the wait with her camellia-applied cape and matching gown, both by Valentino.
The low waistline of the look showcased the pregnant pop star’s baby bump, and she was joined by her partner A$AP Rocky, who wore a layered Gucci skirt over embroidered jeans in a nod to Lagerfeld’s love of Scotland.
Janelle Monae
Few stars can quite compare a theatrical fashion moment to the “Glass Onion” actress.
At this year’s Met, Monáe appeared as Lady Gaga in a trendy striptease, appearing on the red carpet in a black-and-white Thom Browne coat, then stripping off her outerwear to reveal a sheer tapered wireframe dress with black sequins, pearls and pearls. -spiked bikini.
Gisele Bundchen
Fly alone! For the first time since 2006 and the first time since her divorce from Tom Brady, the Brazilian beauty who went to school alone stunned in a sheer white dress accented with vertical sequin stripes and combined with a feathered cape, both from springtime. 2007 summer Chanel Haute Couture fashion show.

If the fashion moment sounds familiar, it’s probably because Bündchen (who else?) wore the same look for the 2007 Harper’s Bazaar Korea photographed by Karl Lagerfeld.
Nicole Kidman
Like Bündchen, Kidman chose to revisit an old favorite look from the Chanel archives at Monday’s Met Gala, and in 2004’s iconic Chanel No. She brought back the fluffy pink silk tulle dress she wore in the 5 commercial.
The gorgeous design style is embroidered with 250 pink feathers and over 3,000 silver crystals and sequins.
Dua Lipa
Much higher than hell! The Gala co-chair caught attention in a tweed Chanel Haute Couture ball gown from 1992, but this is her Tiffany & Co. necklace – over 100 carats of diamond cut in the same cushion cut shape as the iconic yellow Tiffany Diamond – this one really stole the show.
Phoebe Bridgers
The “Punisher” musician’s pearl-embroidered Tory Burch dress paid homage not only to Lagerfeld’s work but also to Bridgers’ preferred motif; Look closely and you will notice that the gemstones are arranged in the shape of a skeleton. Creepy yet sophisticated.
Jenna Ortega
With her corset bodice, ruffled skirt, and draped chains, the “Wednesday” actress’ Thom Browne look was half gothic, half glamorous, and was a great choice for this year’s gala.
Anne Hathaway
A little pretty, a little punk: The “The Devil Wears Prada” star continued her hot line on the red carpet in a cut-off white tweed dress by Versace held together with gold safety pins and strings of pearls.
bad rabbit
Undoubtedly the strongest menswear look of the night, courtesy of rapper “Tití Me Preguntó”, whose all-white Jacquemus ensemble features a 26-foot flowery tail.
There was also a hidden detail in the outfit; Inside Bad Bunny’s jacket was a specially printed picture of Casa Malaparte that Lagerfeld took in 1997; it was a welcome nod to the designer’s photographic work.
