Goodman’s death, aged 78, was confirmed by his manager on Monday after he was admitted to hospice for bone cancer. “We are deeply saddened to announce that Len Goodman passed away peacefully at the age of 78,” his manager, Jackie Gill, shared with BBC News. “A much loved husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed by his family, friends and everyone who knew him.”

Goodman left his position as a judge in November 2022. He announced his retirement only with PEOPLE and with a sense of joy.
“When you’re doing a live show, you need to be on top of your game and react quickly. And as the person gets older, things start to get tougher,” he told PEOPLE at the time. “I haven’t fallen asleep or started dribbling on the show yet, so I thought it was best to go before we started!”
He added, “I will miss the California sun working with my fellow judges and the friendship with everyone on the show.” “I will miss seeing celebrities turn into dancers and I will miss being a part of one of the most successful shows on television.”
