5 ESSENTIAL BRIDAL BEAUTY TIPS FOR THE WEDDING DAY
SKIN CARE TIPS
Think of your skin as a blank canvas. Before applying any makeup, it’s important to make sure your canvas (or face) is clean, prepped, and ready to hold the products you plan to wear for the big day. What’s more, hydration is key when it comes to wedding day skin care preparation. So making sure your face is supple and intensely moisturized (and protected with SPF) should be the first step on your bridal beauty checklist.
In general, it’s best to start your skin care routine at least a year before your nuptials so your skin has plenty of time to get used to any new products you may want to use. The one-year mark is the best time to visit a dermatologist to treat any skin problems you may have, such as psoriasis, rosacea, or acne. For brides interested in injectable or chemical peels, make sure you get these no later than six months before the wedding in case you experience an unexpected allergic reaction.
HAIR CARE TIPS
When it comes to preparing your hair for the wedding day, first of all, do not dye or significantly cut your hair after you have tried it with a professional stylist. The rehearsal is to create a strategy for the day, and if you completely change the look of your hair once a plan is created, you may end up with a different wedding day outcome than you originally wanted. However, if you have to change your hair after your try, be sure to let your hairstylist know as soon as possible.
NAIL CARE TIPS
Although most brides make nail appointments well before the wedding, many often forget an important first step: a nail fitting. While it’s not required, it’s always a good idea to test out the nail design you want before saying “I do.” You should also remember to lubricate your nails and cuticles every day (at least a year before the wedding), which eliminates the possibility of cracked nails and drying of the cuticles. Apart from this, avoid cleaning your hands and making harsh movements very close to the wedding, so that you do not cause your nail polish to break or, even worse, your nails to break.
MAKEUP TIPS
Not all makeup products are created equal. Some contain ingredients like hyaluronic acid and ceramides for dry skin, while other products are made specifically to combat oily skin. It’s important to find makeup that suits your complexion and suits your skin type.
For brides with dry skin, be sure to use a moisturizing primer when applying makeup to prevent any flaking (which can be seen in wedding photos). Do you have oily skin? Use a mattifying serum or anti-shine primer under your foundation to ensure radiant, oil-free skin throughout the day.
Another makeup tip: When looking for inspiration for the big day, celebrity makeup artist and founder of Neen make-up Jeanine Lobell says, “Go for a classic look, not trendy, because you’ll love your photos for years to come. I think timelessness is key. I also recommend rehearsing before the big day and looking good.” “If you have a foundation, concealer, and powder combination that you know looks good, show it to your makeup artist if you have it for that day.”
BREAKING NEWS BEAUTY TIPS
On the actual wedding day, there are a few last-minute and easy makeup tricks that every bride should know. For starters, “Keep your foundation shimmery, but not too shiny for photos. Use highlighter very strategically on the cheekbones, bridge, and tip of the nose,” says Lobell.
Avoid using highlighter on the forehead or other areas that may look oily in photos.
As for your brows, “use two colors: a lighter shade for where you have more brows, and a slightly darker shade for where you want to fill in. Powder the edges of your brows so they don’t slide off your face and look more natural.”
